I have done some searching around but I figured I would throw up a new post.
I am looking for someone who has done this conversion with success who would be willing to tell his story. I would like to know where to get a barrel. What modifications you needed to do to make this work.. Any problems you ran into.. All that stuff.. Rimfirecentral is a good place to look for info but it does not help me find where to buy parts.. Us canadians are very limited to where we can buy gun parts as compared to the US.
Anyway can anyone share thier build story with us so maybe some others can learn.

Thanks

willwagspal (sp?) on here sells the GM barrels. I am unsure if he has the .17HMR barrels however. If not, contact GM barrels and see if they will sell you one. I believe Bits of pieces may also sell GM barrels.

To do this conversion, the only thing you need to do is buy a new barrel, and thats it.

I thought you had to buy a barrel for the 77/22 and than there was a shim and key kit you needed to make it fit?? Do GM make barrels that just bolt right on a 10/22 mag?

I just finished 1. I have not had it out to the range yet. I used a whistlepig barrel.

I could be wrong, but I think you just need to replace the barrel. Check GM's and check if they make a .17HMR barrel. I thought they made the .17HMR but no the .17hm2, but I could be wrong. The barrels don't "bolt" onto the reciever, they are attached to the V-block so if you buy the .17HMR barrel and you allready have 10/22 mag, all you should have to do is just mount the .17HMR barrel onto the V-block and you should be good to go, seeing as how the .17 is a .22mag case necked downto .17.

I bought the barrel right from whistlepig in the us. The top stock is a richards microfit and the bottom one is a revival stock. CZ is right if you have a 22 mag reciever then you just need a barrel. If you buy a 77/22 barrel you will have to shim it because they nub that goes into the reciever is longer.

If it's anything like the 22lr->17HM2 conversion, the recoil system may need tweaking to get it to load correctly. A stiffer spring and heavier bolt handle (more mass) are needed in the HM2 conversion to handle the change in recoil profile.

The .22lr - .17hm2 is different. For this conversion, like you said, you need new parts for the bolt because of the difference in power and kinetic energy between the .22lr and the .17hm2. However, with the .22 mag to .17HMR, the .22 mag has relitavely close kinetic energy in relation to the .17HMR so you just need the barrel, and dont have to replace the bolt or some of the bolt internals.
