So I'm looking to measure my current rifles headspace. It is a .308 win, and I saw the perfect gauge set, the 11 piece Forster set.

I ain't interested in paying $250 us plus shipping, for something I'll use once. Borrowing/renting makes more sense. I am willing to pick up anywhere in the GTA, leave you a photocopy of my pal and driver's license and leave a few bucks for your trouble, then deliver them back within a day or two. (Weekend would be nice). (I'm not looking for go/nogo gauges , I 'm only interested in precise headspace set that measures to the .001.)
I thought of measuring spent cases but getting the datum line just right with calipers, and dealing with the springiness of brass makes me think a check by quality gauges are in order.
My overall goal, is to decide if I should rechamber and step back my existing barrel to min spec SAAMI, and also to ensure my spare replacement barrel get head spaced identically to the original.
Advice from those in the know is appreciated.
