I tried wortners and leamington gunsmith, both said they are too busy to do a bedding job. I am all thumbs when it comes to anything liquid and don't really want to make a mess of an expensive stock.

The gun is an action trued 700 in 223 with a 20" carbon fiber wrapped barrel sitting in a mcmillan HTG edge stock. Everytime I take the gun apart, it seems to get erratic groups. I have seen some 1/2"-3/4" groups but not consitantly. I really think bedding will help me. Anybody know if there is help in my area? Thanks!

I'm in Belle River, I have never done it but I would do both of my guns and if you like the job I do on mine maybe we could do yours. Another option, my friend down the road does all kinds of firearm related upgrades from chambering to half octagon barrels on 22s. I can ask him and get back to you.

Bit the bullet and bedded the rifle tonight. Used Devon steel putty and kiwi neutral shoe polish for release agent. Followed the instructiOns from snipers hide.

Turned out great. My one mistake was not wiping off the excess filler that squished out around the stock or trimmIng it before it got too hard. That meant alot of careful dremel and file work to blend the devcon around the top edges. I used green painters tape on the entire stock and rubbed kiwi neutral shoe polish into the tape. I put that everywhere I didn't want the bedding compound to end up. I also used play dough to fill in the mag hole in the stock and all of the holes and slots in the action. I bedded 3/4 inch in front of the lug. I figure I can relieve it if I want to try it fully free floated. Again I followed the instructions from snipers hide gunsmithing section. I will put up a picture of the finished product tomorrow. Since the stock is a McMillan edge and the fill is white it does not look very pretty were I dremeled out the putty back to the mag and trigger well slots, but that is all hidden when the gun is together. I did wear a mask while grinding since the edge fill contains carbon

The big test is Saturday. Will have a chance to see how it shoots then. Have a buddy baiting wolves around northbay ont. gonna go up and sit on the bait for a few days next weekend...

Good on ya for moving out of your comfort zone and then bedding it! I recommend newbies practice their bedding skills on various sub $ 100 .22LR Cooey or other cheap .22LR rifle. Nice and easy that way, less intimidating and you always improve that Cooey's ability to group! :D

Yes release agents like neutral shoe polish, PAM (cooking spray) are your friends. I like paste wax for a release agent. I just leave it on the underside of my Rem M700 to repel water. Life is good!

here is the finished product, just need to wipe out a bit more of the playdough. I had sanded in the barrel channel and removed the epoxy layer and exposed the edge fill you see in white. Should it be re-sealed (painted) or is it impervious to moisture etc?
