Just wondering if there's any collectors that have or collect aircraft guns. I'm talking about ww2 old vintage stuff. Are there any museums in canada that have actual ww2 aircraft on display? Theres some really neat stuff out there. Does anyone know if its possible to buy deact stuff like that? Wasn't sure what forum to post this on. Any info would be appreciated.

cheers:D

I'm sure there are many museums that have WWII aircraft. Heck, even the local Winnipeg Air Museum has a couple (can't remember exactly what type). At least a bomber and fighter.

I've seen several of the .50 US fighter wing-mounted MG's...not sure what the model is (m3?). They come up in the EE once in a while for $1000-2000. Collectors Source has also had some .50's from time to time, although not right now. There are also the standard .50's (used on the bombers).

Hope this helps,
Matt

The air museum in Ottawa has some neat stuff from WW1 and WW2, there's also a museum in Halifax that I've seen that has a few interesting items, including a V1 "buzz bomb" ... I nearly soiled myself when I saw it, I thought I was going to have to go to DC to see one of those in the flesh.

There's also a museum on the base in Greenwood, NS that I will go visit when time and funds permit, I have a cousin posted there that I don't get to see very often. Last I heard Trenton CFB had the only Halifax bomber still in existance, fished out of a lake in Norway ? a few years back. I'd go see that one in a heartbeat but I don't really know the details if the base is open to the public, reservations need to be made or whatever. I speak to people from that base at work periodically, but never get the same answer regarding that, and even though I'm a major wing-nut, I'm not going to drive 3 hours each way just to be turned back ...Oh and Gibbs505, IIRC the RMC in Kingston, Ont has examples of all 3 of these sitting on the lawn .... I know they have an 88 anyway, I touched it ... :D now THAT is what I call a duck gun !

very cool. What would a 20mm tail gun be worth? Are there any dealers that buy/sell that kind of thing. Or just personal collectors and musuems?

Air museum in Edmonton has some guns and neat planes, went last year to see the american B-17 Sentimental Journey, lottsa .50's... I've picked up two M3 Brownings, a 1935 .303 and a 1956 .50 probably from a Lanc or Halifax and maybe a F86 Saber?? Dewats but neat rumpus room toys.:D :D My basement tv room has five dewat MG's and lottsa other gooood stuff.

CATP Commonwealth Air training Plan Museum in Brandon..... lotsa airyplanes, and they fly as many as possible. All volunteers and you woulknd't believe some of the stuff they are doing.

They have the only fully-operative Mark I Link Trainer in the world; my dad rebuilt it just before he passed away.

You're right, they've got a few, IIRC.

Interesting story-When the WCAM(Winnipeg's air museum) got it's F-86 from Pakistan, it still had it's 6x .50's live and LOADED:eek: Sadly, they're now dewatted, but still in situ. I used to volunteer there, and if I'd been there the day the sabre came in, you better believe there would only have been 5 ma deuces in the airframe;)

smellie, that's a cool story. Those old timers at Brandon are awesome, they've got some GREAT wartime stories, and aren't afraid to share. A terrific museum, it's a real treasure.

I'll take a nice pair of BK37 37mm pod-mounted Stuka cannons please...

Followed by a Flakvierling 4x20mm Cannon for my back porch to keep those pesky model aircraft at bay.

The Brandon museum also has a couple of the MGs on display. There is the M3 .50 cal, and as well it's shrunken baby brother, the Inglis (Browning) mk2 MG in .303. Interesting thing about the Brandon 50 cal is that it is a Canadian Asenals made gun (CAL). They also used a "L" in the serial number in the same format as the Enfields and FNs built there. The CAL built 50s are post war, mind you.
The .303 Inglis MG is still to be found here and there...I've had them before. (deactivated, of course).

It is said/rumored that Von Richtofen's seat is on display somewhere in the GTA. But to this day I haven't been able to confirm that. I know, not MG related, but an significant piece of WW1 militaria if true ...

I always thought it'd be great to have a WW2 bomber bubble turret mounted on your roof.

We all know you can't fire guns in the house, but what about if the house itself is the gun?

like one of them german railway guns that took a thousand men to man it?- not the anzio annie 28cm jobs but the bigger ones?

A few years ago some guys went up into the Kispiox mountains and gathered up the dual 20mm tailgun mount from a US B-36 bomber that crashed there in the 50's. When they landed at Smithers airport they called the RCMP to see how they would go about transporting everything, ammo included, to the Smithers museum. The local cops colllectively soiled themselves and ran around threatening to arrest everyone in sight. Once everyone calmed down I think they just loaded it on a truck, tarped it and hauled it to the museum.
The story about the bomber comes on the History or Discovery channel every once in a while. Its called "Lost nuke".

I can second that. Was there on a cool spring day last year, and basically had my own personal tour guide all to myself. Amazing stories. And I got to do a couple of things that visitors usually don't get to. I could have stayed another couple of hours easily.
