I'm just looking for a little background on my Dad's pest control rifle - it's a bolt action .22 he was given by a friend years ago, but the only reference to the company or gun itself I have ever found by way of google is on an auction list in Manitoba, for the same rifle. Specifically, it's a single shot bolt action .22, marked North America Arms "Grizzly" No. 10 and has a plastic butt plate marked NAACO.

I don't need to know any of this for any specific reason, really, it's just out of interest. Anyone heard of the company, when they were operating, or what became of them?

They were located in Scarborough Ontario on Birchmount RD
I have a copy of their 1961 catalogue, it has photos of the factory showing the new barrel making machines used to produce 22 and high power barrels. In the introduction they state that they are sold in 5000 dealers in Canada. It also lists with pictures of the complete product line from the $19.95 Grizzly to $249.00 NIKKO o/u shotgun. As well it lists just about any accessory going, scopes gun cases, stock blanks ,and ammunition, 42 pages in all. The catalgue is in the first edition of Trigger Talk that was put out by Peterborough Guns in 1960.

Hmm, thanks for that. I'd wondered about them largely because when the registry first rolled in, there was a lot of back and forth with the CFO to identify the gun's manufacturer, whereas the Mossberg 500 that was registered at the same time was, obviously not a problem.

What do they have listed for centerfire? I have a rifle that belonged to my father. It is built on a Sako L57 action, but the barrel is marked North American Arms, cal .308 Grizzly, Made in Canada. I've looked for info on this rifle a couple of times but have come up with very little. They were obviously fond of the name Grizzly.

Use the search function, and you will find more threads on them here.

I did...always do, but I just realised why I wasn't getting results on here. The defaults in the search are different than what I'm used to, so I was only searching a back one week  Sorry 'bout that.

North American Arms was based in Quebec City. Used the old Ross Rifle factory. Briefly had a contract to make 1911's. Very few of 'em were ever made and none actually delivered though.
The current company of that name is in Utah and makes all those little .22's and other evil little pistols.
