Hi anyone know a Canadian retailer who is stocking the Remington 700 Detachable Mag Bottom Metal (DBM)>Remington (SA) 700 Detachable Mag Bottom Metal for AR15 .223/5.56 Mag - Stealth?

Looks like a nice setup.

I couldn't find a dealer for PTG so I ordered direct from them. My DBM is currently "awaiting ITAR". You don't need to fill out any ITAR paperwork on this end if the order is sub-$500 but apparently they still need to get cleared on their end. There are tons of horror stories over on sniper's hide about dealing with PTG and orders getting messed up but that seems to be more in regards to reamers. Anyways, everyone I've spoken to on the phone has been helpful and hopefully it clears and shows up soon!

Got one almost 2 years ago, straight from PTG. ordered, shipped no problems.

I actually never even used mine and sold it last week on EE, brand new. You just missed it

I ordered mine on the 11th so a little over 2 weeks. They said it normally takes 1-3 weeks to clear ITAR and they do have the particular dbm in stock so should hopefully be here quick.

I ordered one and it took something like 3 to 4 months. I ordered it with the 5 round mag, and it cleared without issues.

I think I should have waited for reviews, because this thing is finicky as hell. But TBH, the original remington BDL follower was so terrible, it was a huge improvement. It needs significant work to get it to fit using any real AR magazines. The mags that PTG make for this system are nearly proprietary with very tight tolerances and high quality materials. So if you solely use PTG mags for it, very little work will need to be done. PMags will probably never work in mine. Removing the right amount of material on the receiver is a job left to a good smith. You might be able to get away with bending the lips a smidge on junk quality metal AR mags or LAR 15 mags to get them to feed.

I think PTG could try to offer a whole new bolt with this or some blueprints to send to a smith to modify the existing bolt to better strip rounds out.

You have to mill the rcvr and the stock?

They both needed modification. The receiver's magazine port has lips that need to have metal removed IOT get the magazine to sit high enough to strip rounds off the magazine. The magazine release needs room to clear on the left side of the stock, so some material will have to be removed there aswell.

Seems almost not worth it really does it. From what I've read most other bottom Metal units only require stock modification not the actual rcvr itself if I'm correct? I wonder how easy it would be to just add the actual Remington detachable mag to my sps varmint with an HS precision stock?

Just go with an AI mag compatible bottom metal. For proper install, some receiver modifications are needed but easy to do by hand. And AI mags are designed for use in bolt actions. They single feed rather than double feed like an AR mag. I had an easy time inletting an HS-P stock for an Atlasworxs DBM with a die grinder and it feeds great. I don't know why someone would want AR mags in a bolt action. They feed rough and limit you to SAAMI COAL. AI mags feed beautifully.
