Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any info on a gun I just purchased? (Walked into a gun show, walked out with it...)

Didn't do much research on it and couldn't find out much online while at the gun show. All I could find out is that it was discontinued in the mid 1980s.

12G
Matte Silver
Single selectable trigger
Ejectors
Full over Cylinder (...I think? 1 circle top barrel, 3 circles bottom barrel)

Tried to look up my serial number without any success
SN: D04215B

If anyone can give me any info on it that would be great.

Thanks!

Can't tell you much about the gun other than it is actually full over modified .and being a beretta it will be a quality firearm.

I've run into many of the 680, 682, 686, 687 and 689 variations ... but not the 685.
Can't find a S685E or any other 685 variation even listed in my Beretta references.
Concur with the choke markings ... o = Full, ooo = Modified.
Sorry, not much help here either.

My Blue book makes no mention of the S or E designation - only 685. Discontinued 1986. 100% condition valued at $575, but I have found that compared to Canada, the US undervalues Berettas.

They are the one oddball 680 series Beretta. They are a hunting gun and they have a unique eject (or extract, I can't remember which). The date code is on the barrel and will be two letters.

My Blue book makes no mention of the S or E designation - only 685.

The "S" showed up on very early models, loke the "S.O" series of guns introduced in the early 30's and
continue on today with the SO5, SO6, SO9 etc. Some think the "S" stood for "Sovrapposto", the
Italian word describing what we refer to as Over/Under. (The decimal between the S and the O seems
to have been dropped c. 1971 with the introduction of the SO4.

A single "S" showed up on the new O/U models introduced in 1956 the S55B and derivatives
S55Bb.v., S56E, S57E, S57EL, S58E etc. These were Beretta's first O/U's designed to utilize
interchangeable parts ... as differ from the many hand-fitted parts of the SO series guns.
The "E" on these models then designated automatic ejectors, in much the same fashion
as it did on earlier SxS models like the 311, 410, 411, 422, 427, 450, 452 etc. In other model
designations, the "E" stood for extra , when in conjunction with an "L" "lusso" meaning
a higher degree of finish above the standard model ... like S.03 and S.O3EL, or S687 and S687EELL
"extra, extra, lusso, lusso"

In the case of your S685E, I would hazard a guess that the "S" is sovrapposto and the "E" is for
automatic ejectors.

I'm am grateful for your depth of knowledge. Thanks beretta boy and everyone else. Hopefully this storm/hurricane will pass and I can try it out =)

I just picked up a s685e. Very nice gun. I have bottom barrel with a fixed choke, top barrel can be changed. 29.5" barrel. Not sure if I have extractors or ejectors yet. Barrel says excelsior high strength steel.
Great gun. Information is super rare. My serial number can't be found either.

If you take the barrels off ... look on the underside of them. There will be a two letter code like AB or AN or BC or such. If you post the two letter code I'll see if I can find a date of manufacture for you.

Nickhoffmeier.

From the pictures you put up in another post, your Beretta appears to be one that was perhaps for the European Market (sling swivels) ?
From my research, I don't see any interchangeable chokes from Beretta from the 1981 era ... perhaps an aftermarket modification ?
My references show the date code AN as being 1985.
