Hey everyone! I have recently picked up a old husky in 9.3x57mm but cant find any data in my manuals and online searches haven't dug up much. Just wondering if anyone here has reloaded this cartridge or if they know of a great book/reference to get some data? I was hoping to find some data on cast and jacketed bullets since jet bullets sells a 250 grain fp and I can find some ppu jacketed projectiles online. To be honest I am surprised at how little load data there is out there on this cool round. Thanks for reading and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just put it in the search portion of this section and you’ll find plenty.

Yes - it's been covered a few times, mostly three years and ago and further back. There's some 9.3X57 Load Data out there and lots of 358 Win Load Data which is useful for developing starting loads.

Here are a couple of threads:

From Handloader magazine April/2013 there is extensive data I'll see if my son can scan it and send it to you.I don't feel like writing it all down here.Cell # and or e-mail address.

Yea I have those - the Max Loads are VERY mild - about 40K CUP. All they did was use Hodgdon 250 gr 358 Win loads - Start is 358 Win Start, and Max is midway between 358 Win Start and Max. They then extrapolated for other bullet weights. This is a proven method, but they erred very strongly on the low pressure ("safe") side.

Thanks you all very much! I appreciate all the help. Unfortunately due to covid finding brass to start loading this cartridge will be an adventure in itself, and I will probably have to get some 8x57 to resize. But hopefully soon I will be able to crank out some rounds to plink with soon. Thanks again -Miller854

Some of us ran into considerable commotion with re-forming 8x57 brass - since our 9.3x57 chamber had shoulder further forward than "normal" - so a bit more to it then just to expand the neck - sometimes have to also move the shoulder forward, to fit properly. Should be able to find several discussions about how to do in the Reloading Forum on CGN. I was able to find some new Hornady 9.3x57 dies - that elliptical expander works very well to open up an 8x57 neck (new PPU brass) to 9.3 size. Then I used the expander from a 41 Magnum to expand further to basically a straight wall cartridge case - then back into the 9.3x57 Hornady FL die to bring the shoulder back down and stop it where the bolt just snuggly closed - which resulted in the "new" 9.3x57 shoulder about 0.030" or more further forward than on the parent case. Apparently some guys have not needed to go through that commotion - my rifle is a used, but "new-to-me", commercial small ring mauser 96 made by Husqvarna.

Yea, there's a more to it than with 9.3X62, so after shooting my Tradex mauser in 9.3X57 for a while, I rechambered it to 9.3X62 with no regrets.

Bought a 9.3X62 reamer, used it once and sold it for most of what I had in it. Sold the 9.3X57 dies and brass for more than the 9.3X62 dies and brass cost. Overall about broke even. The 9.3X62 gives me about 200 fps more with all bullet weights, and with no fussing around with brass (I just use very easy to find and cheap 30-06).

Re-chambering to 9.3x62 certainly has merit - but consider your rifle's magazine - so, perhaps many of the 9.3x57 were built on the M96 length - and either need the M96 magazine extended and feed ramp ground appropriately, or have to live with the shorter than "normal" cartridge length imposed by the magazine. I have a 9.3x62 on a 98 Mauser with 3.3" (?) magazine, so do not have the mag length issue.

That's why I used 30-06 brass for my 9.3x57 and 9.3x60 brass. Filled the chamber better, and in my rifles' case, was more accurate. - dan

Using 30-06 for my 9.3x57 is such a great suggestion - would be 1/4 of the fussing to get a shoulder where it needs to be. Head stamp is not going to be correct whether from 8x57 or from 30-06, so that will be what my next batch gets made from!! I do not have a hand crank type trimmer for length, but I got a honking big 48" bed on an old Atlas lathe , so should be a minor thing to get trimmed to whatever length that I want!!! Compared to the chamber cast I did of my rifle chamber, the re-formed cases from 8x57 were considerably short in the neck - using 30-06 will deal with that - so long as case neck walls are okay - I have no way (yet) or much desire to peel neck walls, but could likely make an exception for a batch of these!!!

I have posted below previously on CGN - I am told this is very unusual amount of "free bore" but was as received in this Husqvarna 9.3x57 - so to show the casting with cerrosafe - the shoulders with a re-formed 8x57 more or less lined up, and how far out of the case mouth that the nose rider 285 grain will be before the fat part of the bullet hits the rifling - so any amount of more case neck length that I get can help - but will not really support that bullet until it hits the rifling.
