Hi all, does anyone know of a source for new or used M1 carbine gas piston and gas piston nuts? I bought a M1 carbine recently and the previous owner (possibly through no fault of his own) neglected to tell me these were missing...

thanks in advance :)

Marstar is sold out of both nuts and pistons. Gunparts has 'em though. $8.60US for the nut, $10.80US for the piston. Mind you, the Carbine is on the restricted for export list.
Try Western Gun Parts.

Thanks Andy, I'll take you up on that offer - now I just need the piston... :D

Funny story, I took my M1 carbine to the range yesterday as I wanted to sight her in well in advance the April milsurp shoot and was surprised (frustrated is probably a better word) to find I had to cycle the bolt by hand after each shot. I was thinking gee, stuck/frozen piston?, bocked gas port?... I had this carbine apart before but failed to notice the nut and piston were actually missing...

I assume that the seller will be ponying up for the nut and piston?

You might also have a very good look at the threads the nut engages. There is no reason to remove that nut (it's staked in) and when it is removed, the threads are often damaged. I know from experience.

If the threads are damaged too, I'd suggest asking for a refund, as the range of repairs for that problem can go from nut replacement, to chasing the threads with a next to impossible to find tap, to replacing the barrel.

The cost of the parts should be minimal (especially if I can use your wrench). it's the pain in the ass factor that gives me grief. The threads look OK, but won't know until I try to install the nut. If I have to take it to Gunco the costs are going to go up...

yup hard to get m1 carbine parts in canada

most guys/dealers sold all thier stuff in the usa when it was still legal to do it (cant legally/easily do it now) back in the day barrels alone would sell for hundreds of us dollars

thats why there are alot of stripped M1 carbine recievers in Canada
