I see a gun for sale in the U.S. - How can I buy it and how much will it cost?
Questar makes it easy for you to purchase many of the guns you see for sale in the United States. The steps are explained more fully here: http://www.questar.ca/import_steps.htm . One question we get asked all the time is how much is all of this going to cost me? Here's a basic run down of what costs are involved...
The cost of the gun itself (how much you pay the US seller for the firearm);
The US seller will charge you to ship your purchase to our US partner in Port Huron (usually $20 to $30, but depending on size and value this can run as high as $50 or $60);
There is a $30 (Canadian) FFL Transfer Fee to transfer the firearm onto our FFL books;
There is our $150 (Canadian) Export Service Fee (for preparing the various permit applications, transporting the firearm to Canada, preparing the Canada Customs documents, paying the Customs charges on your behalf and securing the Customs release, verifying and entering the firearm into the CFC database, applying to transfer the firearm to your name).
You will be required to pay the charges assessed by Canada Customs. This may include 3.5% to 7% duty (if the item is not manufactured in the United States, Canada or Mexico), it will always include GST and if you are a resident of Ontario it will include PST.
Finally there is the charge to ship the firearm from our location in Barrie to you. This cost varies depending on size, weight and value of the item but generally handguns range from $30 to $35 and long guns from $40 to 60 (includes Express Post with signature service and fully insured).
