Best option at the moment is to buy a press and start reloading. You can convert .30-06 brass to 8mm with a little work or just buy 8mm brass.
I've seen odds-and-ends of 8mm surplus at gun shows but not much online for a couple years at least. I know one retailer got some in only a couple years ago but it went quick. The last 8mm surplus I tried was Egyptian and had about 4/5 dud primers. Mostly corrosive stuff too.

Surplus 8mm is basically gone. If you do luck into some, don't expect it to last very long. Either reload or buy the expensive factory ammo. Even buying surplus most people who have some to sell are looking for at least 1$ a round and its usually corrosive.

PPU 8mm is probably the most cost effective factory ammo. It's a bit under-loaded so good for plinking and the brass is excellent for reloading.
It's still $22 a box at my LGS (they don't don't hike up old dollar prices)

198grn PPU FMJ comes out at roughly 2425ft/sec which is just about the same speed the original ammo the FN-49 would have been issued with (in fact a little on the light side). Should be safe to shoot, provided the gas system is set for the proper setting.
