Today I put a target out at 500 yds in the field, and with chrony data on my loads, and that JBM online ballistics calc, I was on paper right away with three rounds in 6 inches, sitting, off a bipod.

I'm using 110 gr Hornaday VMAX for coyote around here. The BC is .370 for these. They chrony'd at 3175 in 40 degree weather, with 60 gr of H-4350. I haven't maxed them out, yet.

The rifle is a Win Model 70 Coyote Lite with the medium heavy, fluted 22 inch barrel. Scope was 12X. I have a Leupold 25X LRT coming back from warranty.....

I'm fiddling with different powders right now, etc.

I'm wondering if I'm asking too much of the bullets and rifle to expect consistent 3 inch groups from prone at that range or out to say, 600?

Any comments?

270wsm

I do not have a .270wsm but one very close to it a 7mmwsm I have tryed quite a few powders all with 140gr Noslers BT.
for best velocity and grouping 1/2 use Magpro. just under 3300 fps,
For best accuracy H4831sc both with Fed: Mag primers under.250" at 3150fps
Good luck

Actually, I JUST realized I'm asking about sub-MOA groups.

That ain't gonna happen at that range with that rifle. I don't know what I was thinking. It will shoot MOA at 100, though.

I guess my real question is, is that rifle and cartridge combo good enough for consistent kill shots at those distances, or should I go heavier on the bullet? (Yes, I will continue testing.....but the advice from this board means alot....)
