the XD9 isnt a half bad gun and this is made by the same company, HS Produkt of croatia, seems like it would be another cool non-res gun to add to the growing list.

Yhats just like that Norc t97 that was sold as non restricted and then made prohib. So pleasant dreams cause that's where you will own one.

It was not an Order In Council or similar that caught the T97. Apparently, they are considered to be converted autos.

If this gun was built as semi only straight from the factory, it likely could be imported.
Just like the IWI Tavor is still allowed.

RCMP classification will be the least of it's hurdles, They first have to get the US States Dept. to classify it as a sporting rifle, without the possibility of the US market, it will be hard to justify the cost of re-tooling it for civilian version.

That wasn't the case with the Tavor.

In the Case of Tavor, the civilian version was developed for the US market, they were introduced at the Shotshow back in 2002, at the same time Barret Arms and IWI were in the process of hashing out the details of a partnership, but the deal never materialize. few years later they tried again with Charles Daly, the deal went south when Charles Daly went out of business.

well it would be nice if a distributor would at least look into it. there is money to be had for bringing in black rifles.

is there one in .308? :p

Thanks for the info, I stand corrected.

Why would the US state dept. be involved in this? The firearm is not made in the US, but rather in Croatia and would not even have to see US soil. H&K, Norinco and a few other firearms manufacturers make semi-auto rifles that come to Canada that are not allowed into the US.

What am I missing here? From the pic provided this rifles looks to be semi-auto and not much different than the Tavor...

It doesn't have anything to do with the US Dept however without the ability to sell in the world biggest civilian firearm market, there is very little incentive to do it. in the cases of HK, FN and Beretta they already have factory in the US to produce them domestically, so it is lot easier to justify doing it.

Lastly when it comes to Norinco, it's a State run factory, as long as there is money to be made, doesn't matter how little they will do it, besides all Norinco semi's are just a direct copy of existing civilian designs, with the exception T97 and we all know how that turn out ;)
