Strange, I went to Canadian tire two months ago and mosins were 159.99$ I went today and now they're asking 349.99$ I went to the head of they're hunting and fishing dept and asked if they had messed up the price tags and he swore up and down they have never been 159.99 and that they have always been 349.99 and I'm not talking about the target one in the archangel stock I'm talking just 91/30s what the hell boys??

Is it possible it was either a M38 or M44?

Nope, CT supplier has told them that the supply is drying up due to sanctions, expect that next SKS supply to be 350 bucks. Ammo may double too at CT.

Maybe the rifle you saw included ammo? I saw at the local CT here that they were bundling Moisins and Ammo together but I didn't look at the price too closely as I am not a fan of Moisins.

This is exactly what the good ole boys used to say about Lee Enfields and Mausers back in the day. If the sanctions against some Eastern block countries continues prices will escalate. If the battles over there reach a point where the rifles as well as the stored ammo is needed as reserve war stock the supplies will dry up. Even after the embargoes are lifted the price may never come back down. Stock up while the stocking up is good and cheap. If the evaporation of 22 rimfire and reloading components didn't teach you anything this might. Then again, if the ongoing talks between Putin and the EU are successful and actually hold maybe all will be well.

Picked up two last month at CDN Tire in Winnipeg/Leila location - $160 plus taxes. They were pre-war (1937's) with good reverse bullet tests.

The gun counters at CT are semi independently owned and operated on a franchise by franchise basis. Some of the guys running those counters have a clue, others... Notsomuch.

At least you can buy guns at YOUR Crappy tire. None of the ones close to me sell anything larger than a pellet gun that is under 500fps. The closest one to me hasn't had 22 ammo for over 2 months. I am jealous of you guys that can just head over to CT and get what you want.

What sanctions? What Eastern block? Are we back in 1970? There are certain sanctions against certain ppl and companies in Russia and that's it. Molot rifles still being imported in Canada from Russia. And BTW most of Soviet surplus like SKS, SVTs, Mosin Nagants and TT-33s came to Canada from Ukraine. We don't have sanctions against Ukraine, it's just Ukraine is too busy fighting Russian terrorists to sell some cheap stuff internationally. You would be surprised to know how small the price for mil-surplus. Sometimes it's easier to destroy rather then to search for the buyer.
One thing you got right - most likely this is the end of cheap Soviet surplus... and about all these EU-Ukraine-Putin talks I would refer to Otto von Bismarck: "Russia ... The agreement is not worth the paper on which it was written."
Also markets have some capacities, how many cheap SKSs or MNs can we eat until sales fall down to minimums?

Is this the Bridgewater NS Canadian Tire by chance? They have one there for $349, and others for $169. They told me the one was priced higher because it is in a "precision stock". I pointed out that it looked exactly like the $169 rifles, but the manager insisted it was different. I know what happened. They used to have mosins in archangel stocks and put a price tag from one of those on a regular refurb. No way would they listen to me.

Yes bridgewater ct that bugger that works the gun counters been there since it opened he's useless hasn't two clues and I suspected that tag was off the one in the archangel stock they carried for awhile. He swore up and down that's what they're worth I told him its bs

I spoke with the manager and he insisted it was a precision stock. If I can avoid buying from those guys I do. There's a nice K31 there right now but I'd order from a site sponsor and pay shipping before getting it there.
