I am thinking about re-barreling my Belgium Browning 338 win mag to 358 Norma. I have heard from River Rat about his 358 and Corlane in Dawson Creek say it is very doable. I'm wondering if anyone else has anything good or bad to say about the cartridge. I plan to neck up 338 brass and load for it, probably Hornady 250 grain R/N, but I have a number of other bullets I would give a go. Corlane recommends a barrel from Pacnor.

Great caliber I have two.

7 pound Ruger with a 16 Twist 22" ported factory barrel. Kicks pretty good but those 250 Noslers at 2800 hit like bricks into about 1.25MOA.

9 Pound Sako with 25" Douglas shoots a lot easier but doesn't carry so well.
225 Sierras at 2800 shoot into .5MOA! for varmints. The big 275 Barnes Originals reach 2700 and shoot into an honest inch.

Pretty much 375 H&H territory eh?

Article I wrote on bullet selection in 35: http://www.35cal.com/35bullet_study/35bullet_study1.html

I had a Schultz and Larsen M65 in 358 Norma....I liked it for its hard hitting, bear stopping power. I dont think you would ever regret getting one. Not much in this world you cant stop with that gun.

As much as I like 35cals, I would doubt that there would be very much gain between a 338Mag and a 358Norma. It would be the same as comparing a 338/06 to a 35Whelen. Not that much difference.

Another option would be to do it in a 375/338 Taylor.
