How is the accuracy @ 100 meters, anyone run any tests.
Second question, is the receiver & bolt , is it build strong, and functions without a problem.
I was thinking of building a Tack driver in 22 mag, and this gun comes to mind, would it not be an excellent platform for a 1-16 twist mag sporter Gaillard 22 rimfire barrel?
I know it is a challange to make a 22 mag shoot, but I think .5 moa would be easy with this mossey/gaillard combo, your thoughts:D

I've been getting 1.25"-1.5" with it out to 130 yds. I suspect I'd do better with better ammo.

Not to suggest that the person pullin' the trigger has no responsibility, here.

No dirt-pig within 150yds is safe. ;)
 
Frank; I had a 640K "Chuckster" that I bought new in the early 60's. I have forever regretted selling that little rifle, because it was truly an accurate 22WMR. I regularly shot ¾" groups at 100 with it with the Winchester SP jacketed ammo. Today there is a lot more ammo choices, so I'm sure something would have worked even better. If you put a premium barrel on it, it should be dandy. FWIW, Mossberg rimfire rifle tend to be very accurate in most configurations. I have 3 M146B's at home, and any one of them [ugly as they look] will shock people when I shoot them at the range. They are surprisingly accurate, and with that 21 round magazine, you only have to load em a couple of times to shoot all afternoon! ;) :rolleyes: :D Regards, Eagleye.
 
Looks like I got a chance to pick one up, it has some mods though , 22 inch barrel crowned, metal trigger guard, and the last one gives me some concern, the cheek comb has been taken down to level, like a shotgun stock I would guess. Wonder if this would mess up the shooting line/hold any.

Had the 640K Chuckster and I also regret selling it. It wore a 3-9X Weaver and could print 1" groups at 100yds. any day. Shot hundreds of Woodchucks in south western Quebec and if a Chuck was inside of 120yds. it usually died. Started shooting smallbore 3 pos. when I was 14. My Dad gave me a Mossy 320KA single shot which a gunsmith had fitted with Lyman peeps. Used this gun to win many junior awards and took it in the field to bag crows and chucks. Extreemly accurate. The only flaw with these guns was the firing pin prone to breakage. Owned a few more Mossebergs over the years and never met one I didn't like.:)
 
While the rifles shoot well out of the box, in my opinion the action isn't one to use as the basis for a custom rifle with a premium barrel. Its a pinned barrel, locked with a stamped bolt handle collar, .22 action, with a modification to reduce the chance of unlocked discharge.
 
I have a Chuckster also. With Federal 50 Gr ammo it'll hold well under 1" at 100 if I do my part. (all totally stock except the scope.) Typical groups are 3/4", my best is 5/8" (measuring outside to outside of the holes.)

Definitely a tack driver... The 24" barrel is good and I wouldn't mess with it... The trigger, is another story... Heavy and a fair bit of creep. It also really doesn't like the lighter bullets at all...
