Anyone own a Weatherby Ultra Lightweight?

Well went to the store to buy the bullets and rest. Picked up the Caldwell Deadshot front and rear shooting rests, they didn't have the bullets in stock that I wanted to try, except for the Hornady Superfomance in 180 Gr. Now to shop around to locate the Nosler Trophy Grade ABLR 190 Gr., Nosler Custom Hand Loaded 200 Gr. and Barnes VOR-TX - TTSX BT 180 Gr. and it's off to the range for me

In terms of my shooting abilities zero issues there, only question is the rifle's ability. I will post the results after shooting my new toy.

Thanks for your input guys!)

REALLY EH? %$@!

I had exceptional results with the 180 Gr. Accubond Trophy Grade in my 300 WSM, am hoping for the same results with the ABLR's! Only one way to find out! lol

Standard Accubonds are a different deal; much like Ballistic-tips that tend to shoot well in many barrels. It helps when there's a bit of cylindrical portion left and a more forgiving ogive profile. The Barnes also tends to be forgiving for jump, though its not much of a long range bullet.

It wasn't that long ago that VLDs and match bullets were nearly the exclusive domain of handloaders and target shooters, and everyone and his dog knew you seated them on, into or a tiny skip to the lands and tuned loads. The tune changed abruptly when the market changed to the point when there were more money to be made in shooters that wanted to kill a deer three fields over, still wanted to feed out of the magazine with factory loads and thought that that and a yardage marked turret was going to allow them to buy something that has to be earned. When there's a market, someone will fill it. Story got adjusted accordingly.

Dogleg just made a great post. I think you should read it carefully. To answer, the standard Accubond (like most hunting bullets) has a tangent ogive while the LRAB and most VLD designs have a secant ogive. A secant ogive is much more sensitive to seating depth and in 95% of cases do not shoot well unless close to the lands. Which means you must handload them. You may get lucky, and they may shoot, but most likely you will need to handload to shoot the really high BC bullets.

I do not shoot enough to justify reloading

I am not a range shooter and on an average year I shoot 1 box of ammo. How long do you wait in-between shots to let the barrel cool off?

I hate posting this as you obviously have enthusiasm and are excited about your new rifle. However this whole idea of getting a gun to shoot game at over 500 yards because you have a Huskemaw and a .300 WM is an awful idea. I know you say you can shoot the lights out but it takes thousands of rounds a year (every year!) to be a competent long range shooter no matter how long you have been shooting, how good your equipment is or how good your natural ability is. Nothing wrong with long range hunting, but if you really want to do it for the love of god please spend a couple years learning to reload and shooting a few thousand rounds. Just because a guy sees it on "best of the west" does not mean it's a good idea. Read between the lines in Dogleg's post. He is one of the most experienced hunters on this board. Is he talking about you?

Did I offend anyone? Nope but I am sure I will be banned anyway.

So you replaced the Browning Titanium in 300WSM with a Mark V Ultralight, and you put the Huskemaw off of the Browning 300WSM on the Weatherby? And you still like Nosler Ammunition because you still don't reload. That is huntingsask to a T. Or as you used to be on AO edmhunter.

You offended people by violating the forum rules, when you joined up under a new username, after being banned as hiuntingsask. You did get away with your charade for a few months , but yet again you have been caught.
