Anyone try painting their Norinco CQ with flat black spray paint?

How does it look?

How does it last?

I'm so sick of this cheap looking flaky dark blue paint.

Jeff.

If you have access to compressed air, Princess Auto sells spray guns (paint) for under $10. I'd then order some paint (flat black) from Armacoat and use that. It'll look WAY better. Hell, if you want to get real fancy, Princess Auto also sells a small sandblaster for under $10 - then you'd have a professional job.

Good luck~

BBQ paint is for aluminium. Get some engine paint from Crappy Tire. How long any paint job lasts depends on the preparation of the steel.

if you know someone in the auto painting business, just ask them to let you know the next time they are painting a black bumper. Their two part urethane paints are very durable but toxic.

I have used all sorts of spray paint on guns and the best has been the bumper paints you can find at cdn tire or lordco (BBQ paint is good to and works in a pinch). They will certainly chip if rough handled but stand up to reg. handling quite well. When it looks crappy, shoot another coat on and keep going.

Most of these paints don't stand up to cleaning solvents at all.

Others have used Krylon paints with excellent success especially when you paint some plastic with the metal. Their matte top coat is very durable and they make camo colours.

If you are just trying to repair the black finish, then don't just paint it. That's just a cheap, temporary fix. Paint WILL flake, guaranteed. Take your gun to a gunsmith, to be parkerized. Pakerized finishes look good, and are durable (but not rust proof!) You can also try armacoat, or duracoat finishes, if you want to do it yourself. They are a lot more difficult, and require compressed air & a spray gun, but way more durable than ordinary spray paint.

I am a big fan of the paint cans they sell at Dave's Surplus, I have done a couple of ARs and will be doing my 6920 this weekend...it's actually a lot of work painting like you don't give a ####.
