Anyone Pounded Some "MFS 55GR Lacquered Steel Case" .223 Through Their AR?

i used some in my csa sa 58. alot of failure to extract and some other slight issues. i gave mne to a buddy of mine who owns an ar. i never did ask how it worked out for him.

Had a few sticky cases going in to battery with my Norc but a smack on the FA cured it... Might have more to do with dirty WWB I had been shooting earlier tho.

Grouped pretty good at 50M but can't hold a candle to Prvi 5.56 FMJ.

Has anyone tried this stuff out of an XCR?

I have heard that some XCR's dont like steel casings? (not sure though as mine is still in the mail) I am looking for a cheap source of ammo that will run fine. -Can you just crank the gas out to #4 and call it good?

I shot about 2000 MFS 55gr FMJ, the silver zinc plated stuff. It shot okay, maybe 1.5-2 inch groups at 100 yds. The only problem with the ammo is it's dirty. The red primer sealant get's all over everything, some people care about that kind of thing, others don't. Overall it ran flawless in my Swiss, with no extraction issues ever. A great plinking ammo, if you don't mind the steel case. It may not mean anything to low volume shooters, but because steel cased ammo is harder on your extractor, when you shoot thousands of rounds a year the the difference between steel and brass can really wear your extractor out quicker. It just doesn't extract as soft as brass. It's a fact.

Then I tried at least 1000 rounds of MFS 55gr Hollow Points, it's kind of green in color. I believe this is the lacquer. This stuff while much cleaner (no red sealant) shot GREAT for plinking and fun stuff, then I actually tried shooting some groups. The absolute best I saw with this stuff, with two different rifles and two different shooters was 2 inch groups at 100 yds. Usually it grouped closer to 3 inches. It also ran flawless and did not give either the Swiss or XCR any extraction issues.

Just get American Eagle, it's almost the same price, way cleaner, not as hard on the extractor, and you can easily get 1 inch groups at 100 yard if you do your part. Much better varmint round.;)

Non

Remember that steel casings are harder on your upper than brass. On an AR check the upper occasionally for signs of wear where the cam rotates and other places that the bolt contact the upper.

I've used it in three different uppers with great success. Just be aware of the potential for wear.
