Anyone prefer P99AS over PPQ???

I didn't get a PPQ due to

1. long threaded barrel
2. trigger is actually heavier than the trigger on P99
3. Slide is less sculpted frame looks less elegant.

I viewed the PPQ as a P99 with less machining...less cost in production...with a Glock trigger installed.

I am curious to know about the trigger pull. On the Walther America web site it says:

PPQ
5.5 lb pull

P99
Initial shot: 11 lb pull
2nd shot reduced to 5 lb pull

So, when you say the PPQ trigger is heavier you are comparing it to the 2nd shot of the P99?
 
The thing about the P99AS is after you rack slide it is in the AS mode, which basically means the striker is cocked but the trigger is in the forward position. What this means is that you have a very light take up before the trigger locks in to the SA position. If you do one smooth pull, you have a long takeup and a light 4.5 lb release. If you stage it you take up until you hit the stacking point, realign sights then still have a 4.5 lb release. I typically holster in the AS mode. You can decock if you prefer the heavier DA trigger. For all subsequent shots, short reset to a short single action pull.

Some may say it's 'unsafe' with striker being cocked, but the PPQ has cocked striker with a Glock like trigger with safety paddle.

The AS trigger pull is very similar to the LEM pull on HK's except it is about 1 lb lighter in release. P99AS allows 2 modes of carry AS and DA. PPQ is like Glock, consistent 5.5 lb pull.

So, in IPSC and IDPA games are we allowed to holster it in AS mode? I would like to be able to have a light first shot.

How long is the 9 mm Canadian barrel? On the Walther America web site they show the barrel to be 4". So, to have it legal in Canada does it come here with a longer barrel protruding out of the slide or a threaded one?

The P99 has a 106mm barrel, that barely protrudes from the slide. The design of the walther has the barrel sit a little more to the rear vs. Glock or HK so you get less of the protruding effect from the Canadian barrel.
 
Years ago I considered the P99. I dropped the idea. Never had the chance to try one as I haven't ever seen one at any of the ranges.

I bought the PPQ because of the balance and fit. I have been using it at my IDPA practice sessions and I am transitioning quickly from my P220.

Pros
-Grip is perfect for my small hands
-Shoots great; 1 1/2" five shot groups, offhand with hot, 115grn hollowpoints @ 15 m
-Draws and presents easily
-Mag changes are smooth and I dont have to break my grip
-Lightweight
-Great German quality, of course;)
-AWESOME trigger that I have to get used to coming off the P220 platform

Cons
-Snappy to shoot
-I hate to say it but the Glock is an easier transition
-Itsa gonna be an expensive learning curve:ang

Well heres my take on it....OH WAIT I FORGOT North Sylvia isn't getting P99AS in .40 till next year Spring. I've placed my order through Wolverine, now the loooooooooong wait.
 
OK, I stand corrected.

PPQ trigger is much better than P99AS, I was amazed.

Slide to frame fit on PPQ seems looser though.

The metal sights saves you money from replacing fragile plastic p99 sights.
