Hi, New here. I have a Winchester SXP Defender and would like to have it modified for choke tubes. Not looking to hunt birds other than the clay type every now and then.
Any suggestions would be great.
Sorry to hijack the thread, just a quick question about choke tube threading. Can only a gun with Cylinder Bore be threaded? I have an Improved Cylinder on one shotgun, would it be possible to modify it to accept chokes to make it more versatile?
There are quite a few things to be taken into consideration before tackling a barrel for interchangeable chokes. Firstly a fair bit of measuring with accurate measuring tools, generally speaking all existing choke is removed before the reaming and threading job is undertaken. I found that the majority of older barrels did not have enough wall thickness to accept the common Rem chokes or the Win choke system which left little option but to use the thin wall Colonial choke tube system. As handy an option as the Colonial system was there were still some barrels that were to thin in the wall to be considered candidates for interchangeable chokes. As mentioned before I sold my tooling a few years ago and what options are available nowadays to the smooth bore guys may have changed drastically. Regards David Henry.
Yup! Roy is my go-to guy for any work I need done. He's threaded a shotgun barrel of mine for tubes, and it was a great job! He was really quick as well, as long as you don't try to get anything done around hunting season. He gets swamped.
