anyone reload aluminum?

ive got a few boxes of 9mm that are in what appears to be aluminum cases rather than the typical brass. seeing as its a soft material like aluminum has anyone ever tried reloading these ?
 
Look inside. Is there a single, central flash hole or are there 2 or 3 smaller flash holes? If the single, it's boxer primed and easy to reload. If several then it's berdan primed and harder to reload. Not impossible; but something that you'd save for very hard to find cases.
 
for the cost of 9mm i wont bother to reload the aluminum stuff. my buddy has a ton of brass were gonna start to reload but i got a good deal on this stuff so i was curious if the aluminum was any better than brass for reloading. thanks guys
 
There are aluminum cased 9mm that take standard boxer primers. I tried a few just to see if it was do-able and found them to function after a fashion.

Some primer pockets don't feel right and I certainly wouldn't load them hot or more than once. I wouldn't recommend them considering how easy it is to get decent brass. Take it for what its worth.
 
Be careful if you are sizing aluminum.
If the case is oxidized at all, the oxide may be harder than the sizing die material.
This will scratch your die.
I would not bother.

it can be done in therory but i would think the aluminum case wouldnt not be able to be reloaded as many times as a brass case and im not sure if it would crimp the same either . i would suggest to try it just buy some brass from a range or reloading supplies retailler
 
i was more curious than anything else. ive got a buddy who has a box full of once shot brass for the 9mm that were gonna load. but i was planning on shooting the couple boxes of aluminum cased stuff and figured if it was easy enough to work with id try and pick up the few i shot and add them to the pile. thanks for the help

x2, i wouldnt bother. I asked about this as well a few years back and was told to just avoid it. The only thing ive ever done regarding the aluminum cases was pull the steel core projectiles and put in some soft point ones to fire indoors. If i remember correctly back when i asked, the general consensus was that you couldnt reloading them. Plus from my understanding some of that surplus stuff is steel casings which will not resize correctly.
