Anyone got any pointers on some 12ga buckshot loads using Unique powder? Information is hard to find even on the internet.

I have access to many different hulls, wads and primers, but I'm pretty well stuck with unique for powder so if anyone could let me know how much they are using in their buckshot loads that would be great. I'm planning on making some with #4 buckshot which I believe is 1-1/4oz at 27 pellets.

have you gone to

h t tps://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/

and checked ?

Yes, I use loads from there for birdshot but from what I've read, a 1-1/4oz load of buckshot must be loaded differently form birdshot due to the pellet size. The data on that site doesn't list anything specifically for buckshot.

Sorry I can't help with PROVEN UNIQUE load data, It's a good powder for slug loads. The only load I've USED with #4's is 27gr SR4756 & 27 pellets. Easy to remember and patterns well at 30 yards. HOWEVER I have data I've written down, just not sure where I got it. I can PM you with it if you'd like, It uses 25 pellets rather than 27.

Where may I ask did you read that. More than likely saying the larger shot deforms in the barrel or some BS so needs a different charge
1 1/4 is 1 1/4 in pellets regardless of diameter if you can fit them in
When you set up a load, it's "Powder Charge vs. Weight of your load (1 1/4oz)
So long as you keep your loads at that weight, shot size doesn't matter unless something Has changed.
Been reloading both since the 60's with no issues
I use a lot of unique in 28, 16 and 20 ga but not in buckshot loads. That is old blue dot for me. But I could

In fact got a scare last week when I could not see Unique listed at hummasons. A quick e-mail confirmed he can still get it in one day :)
Just my 2 cents
Cheers

Yes, please. Any info is useful.

Curious, are you planning on using this for coyotes??

If I ever get the chance I suppose.

Google "buckshot using unique" and there are a lot of people on US forms discussing it. Something about the "fluidity" of the shot. They don't say it's dangerous, rather, they say you'll end up with lower pressures and velocity using the same data for buckshot rather than birdshot. I'm a complete noob to shotshell reloading, I claim to know nothing.

That is exactly what I said they would be saying in my earlier post

Have any checked it on a chrono??
Will you see a difference NOT in your life. If anything unique is a bit too fast in 12ga loads IMO
I am not a google fan

Why not e-mail alliant and see what they say if still concerned
Like I said I am not a unique user for buckshot and like this manual

I still have some old 12 ga. Bowling Pin Loads , which are 1 1/4 oz. of # 4 Buck and 22 gr. of Unique .

I looked up the data I have , and all I found is from Ballistic Products. They list several loads. Various hulls, and about 24 gr. of Unique for around 1300 fps with 1-1/4 oz of buckshot. BPI load data and the wads they specify for buckshot can be purchased online at Sporteque.

That's about what I'm looking for in a final product.
