Is anyone reloading 20BR these days?
I have an old recipe for H4198 that I used for a new lot of powder, and
blew a couple of primers and hard bolt opening. I pulled everything apart and decided to start 4gr down and work up. Still blew primers.
If anyone is loading 20BR, do you have a good H4198 load?

If you went down 4gr and still blew primers is there any chance you have a carbon ring in your throat causing you pressure issues?
 
Not sure what bullet weight you are using but I ran Quickload for the .20 BR (Potts) and see that 4198 is a pretty poor choice for that case/bore combo. What bullet and charge were you using?

I do have a Quickload on the way.
My Pacnor barrel seems to shoot good with H4198.
My recipe is Lapua brass (necked down 6mmBR), Federal 205M primers, 27.7gr H4198, Sierra 39gr. Blitzking.

I don't remember seeing a carbon ring, but that doesn't mean there wasn't one.
I'm wondering if oil in the chamber could be the cause.
I usually run a bore snake through before shooting. This time I forgot.

Quickload is saying that is that is a 71K PSI load....Without knowing exactly your fired case water volume and seating depth, this is a ballpark simulation. At that pressure it's saying they're going 3994 fps with a 26" barrel. I think a safe load isn't being generated with this powder because the fill volume at a safe pressure is below the 85% value. It predicts that kind of speed at a safe pressure with RL17.
