I started cleaning up a rifle got almost all the cosmo off just a front sight has a little, gotta run a cleaning brush down through but I started cleaning up the stock and all the cosmoline came out but the finish also started coming off the stain and all.
I had a hair dryer on medium Heat fairly decent distance away from the stock wiping it down with a rag whenever I seen the drip, I noticed something the upper handguard the end caps are brass pinned on with copper pins looks pretty the lower stock is All Steel I wouldn't mind if it had brass on it but I'm not complaining I'm wondering if anyone got any pictures of what they did to their stocks I have to send the whole bloomin thing down now and restain it then put some boiled linseed oil on it I'm just wondering if anyone has any pictures or if anyone has any of the barrel strap clips that get pushed into the stock side anyone have the brass furrels for the strap holes?

Its hard to follow what you asking but i have brass caps on 2 of mime. I used water, soap and that wood floor cleaner with steel wool to get cosmo off. Let it dry and did 2-3 light coats of true oil all over. If you do the coats to thick it becomes tacky.

I never strip the oroginal finnish off completly anymore. Just oils to protect it. I like the battle worn looks better anyways.

Sorry about that, I tried to edit it more normal lol, damn voice to text.
I used a hair dryer to heat remove the cosmo, and it took the finish off, I mean down to enough bare wood to re stain it haha, I'm thinking of a standard gun stock or red chestnut that looks like what it was, my problem is the brass ends were scratched up bad and dipped in paint haha, I got it off but very scratched.
Gonna have to remedy that, what you think few grits of sand paper?

I used 0000 steel wool to polish the brass ends with some oil, Mine were painted to. Very sloppy paint job. In my case i used oven cleaner and it melted all the paint off.

Its such a small area It wasn't to hard. I would be to scared to use sand paper unless you had like 1000-2000 Grit auto sandpaper and wet sand, you will still need to polish it.
