That’s what I kind of figured. If it’s no concern I’ll just keep an eye one it!Nothing to worry about, unless it increases.
I believe someone tried to remove and/or re/install the bolt handle.
Hey. Stuff happens. I am more worried about if it’s serviceable and functional. Little wear never bothered me just safety and my go to hunting gun!Checked mine - nothing similar. Agree with memphistos suggestion, possibly trying to remove/replace a stock or even an aftermarket bolt handle likely caused the damage.
One other less-plausible explanation... If the bolt had ever been really stuck or wouldnt rotate up to open the action (for whatever reason), if someone had reefed really hard on it, the bolt handle itself might have flexed ever so slightly (highly doubtful) or had just enough wiggle/play in the slot to cause the bolt handle shaft to move upwards just enough to impact the edges of the bolt handle slot, causing the chipping.
Gotcha. Mine all have signs of life outside the range too..lol... I think youre fine.Hey. Stuff happens. I am more worried about if it’s serviceable and functional. Little wear never bothered me just safety and my go to hunting gun!
It’s pretty even so I’m not sure if that’s from equal pressure or what
If you could only see some of my wood stocked riflesGotcha. Mine all have signs of life outside the range too..lol... I think youre fine.
Scars are cool. They mean you won.If you could only see some of my wood stocked rifleswork horses are my bread and butter
En tout cas, c'est moche à voirYup. I agree. --^
That would actually line up!As odd as this is to say, it kinda looks like someone tried to install a bolt handle upside down and gave it a whack…
Whoever the previous owners have been… it’s okay as long as it works. Might invest in a new bolt eventually but don’t mind itWow that looks bad I'd be wondering what or who the perp was

Yeah. Chatted with a gunsmith and he said basically the same as yall. It’s not a high stress part of the bolt and the 2 lugs in the front take it all. He doubts it will spread or any more damage will be done.https://www.rangeviewsports.ca/product/pr-precision-tikka-t3-bolt-body/
$380 plus tax for a bolt body
PR had fluted bolts for sale a couple of weeks ago.Yeah. Chatted with a gunsmith and he said basically the same as yall. It’s not a high stress part of the bolt and the 2 lugs in the front take it all. He doubts it will spread or any more damage will be done.
I might see if PR can spiral flute one that they sell and I’d go for that. Im thinking I’ll run it like this for now until I want something to tinker with next winter
Easy, rifle got dropped or fell over on a hard surface. Lots of pics easily found online of similar broken boltsOnly one chip on this T3X bolt, have no idea how it happened as I bought the rifle in this condition.
