Done a bit of reasearch after reading the recent Tokarev thread. The 7.62X25 seems to have everything I am after but cosmetically the pistol it's self leaves a bit to be desired. I fancy one of these.

Does anyone in Canada sell these ?

I think you'll only find them from private sales or trade in's, I haven't seen any for a while.....I'd love to find out where they got those nice wood grips though, much nicer then the issue plastic ones mine has......:D

For what it's worth, the tokerov is a stronger gun for shooting some of the hot loaded 7.62X25 with

I had a feeling someone would tell methey were difficult to get hold of here, there seem to be lots available in the US. I recently sent a rifle to a friend in the US, the paperwork was not half as bad as I was led to believe, I would doubt it's any harder to ship from the US to Canada. I will probably go that route.

You say that the Tokarev is a stronger gun for shooting some of the hot loaded 7.62X25 with, have you had problems with yours ?

The grips are home made, I would bet you could make some just as nice for your gun without a lot of effort. I found this little article on the net http://www.sff.net/people/sanders/52.html

I like hi-velocity rounds and though about geting a Tokarev but it's just so fugly I just can't make myself to get one... :runaway:

I like shooting the CZ52. It screams with the old surplus ammo.
There are a couple of downsides though: weak firing pin and the odd safety that likes to engage partially unless it is forced down with the thumb.
It has a few ftf but I'm sure it is mostly the old ammo.

It's true that the firing pin is weak(because it is cast metal) and the tip can break off easily after some dry fire. The safety lever locates in the wrong position. Overall - the gun is not bad with unique slide release design, and roller clamp lock. I have not seen any available for sale for the past two years.

Yes and no. It is not stronger. Try Czech SMG ammo in a Tok. Actually, don't. But the 52 is over-engineered and has some less than robust parts.

The 52 is a stronger design on paper. Take a look at the thickness of the bottom chamber walls on the 52 and compare them to the Tok. In order to fit the rollers into the 52 they had to remove a fair bit of material from the chamber wall and as a result it gets pretty thin, much moreso that a Tok. That is why you often hear of KBs with the 52, but not with the Tok. To to best of my knowledge the current marstar Czech 7,62TT ammo is smg ammo, thats why its on stripper clips and I (and hundreds of other people) shoot that all the time in the Tok with no problem.

The VZ 52 is designed to shoot the Czech M48 ammo which if my memory serves me right is reportedly 18-20% hotter than Russian ammo. If the Marstar ammo is M48 it is the right ammo for the VZ 52.
