Hey guys I asked this before. But never got a lot of replies.

Has anyone ever tried ball ammo in a hb bolt gun ? Just to see how it shot ??

I am going to try it someday ? Just currious if u tried.

I have a good reserve of fed black box ! Just seeing what you found.

That's the beauty of a .223 bolt gun. I shoot AE 55 gr. and for the most part it shoots pretty good. It's not as consistant as reloads or your favourite boxed match/varmint ammo, but it's great for practice...will hold MOA most of the time.

tried norinco in a 1/7 shillen barrel, no deal, american eagle tactical showed SOME promise

why not reload.... even with some better "match" bullets the cost breaks even with buying (most) bulk .223 (that is if cost was your concern)

I use to shoot it all the time in my F-Class guns in the 90's just for testing. 3/4" 5 shot groups @ 100yds was the best they'd do back then for IVI, Federal/AE and 1.5" for Norinco Ball.
No substitute for good quality match ammo/handloads, but perfect for plinking.

I shoot American Eagle from the black package in the bulk ammo can from my Savage bolt action. It is fairly consistent, MOA is possible but not common.

Cost no just currious and I load way to much ammo lol.
Be nice to just pack a few Sundays with one type of ammo and 3 guns that will shoot that ammo and have fun.

I have lots of match grade ammo bullets and powder/primers to last me years. Lol just getting lazy. After 25 years of loading as much as I have we'll the excitement is over lol that's all

I think in my biggest years of burning powder I went through 4 different types cals of barrels and 100 lbs of powder a year lol. So ya. Bulk may not be as crafty lol but it's easy. !!

I'm getting older too and nothing like breaking out cheap surplus ammo for fun and no reloading. I've handloaded also since the 1970's when it was cheaper to do so.
The price today for components is staggering, but it's the only way for match ammo.
For hunting ammo I just take out the military bullet and slip in a hunting one. Good enough for deer and coyotes around here and the shells don't get picked up in the bush. Cheaper than buying hunting ammo.
