Anyone shoot a 7-08 Ackley??

I am going to be building a 7-08 and curious if anyone has gone the ackley route with this cartridge. Velocity with the 140-150 grain bullets? As well I will be necking down Lapua brass, is it as easy as just running the .308 brass into a 7-08 FL die?

I'm actually putting one together now, just collecting the pieces. Velocity with 140's should be around 2900-3000 with a 22-24" barrel. Yes, you can just neck down 308s, but you still have to fireform them to the Ackley configuration in the chamber. - dan

The 7-08 Ackley is a great cartridge. Expect 3000fps w/140gr bullets and 3200fps w/120's from a 22" tube.

My hunting load is a 140gr AB @ 3030fps, and there is not much it can't do. I've had great luck also with the 140gr NP and 140gr XLC from this rifle... will use the TSX when my AB stash runs dry.

Used this rifle to take Stone's Sheep, Moose, Elk, Black Bear, Mtn Goat, Whitetail Deer and 6yd Grizzly.

Deadly accurate, mild mannered, hard hitting, and feeds flawlessly all in a lightweight package.... what more do you want?

Since I had mine built, my brother and 4 buddies have built lightweight 7-08AI's.... and none have disappointed!

Here are 2 that we've built (bottom one is 6lbs scoped, the other is a hair over 6lbs scoped (my brother's).

Thanks for the replies. 280 Ackley, those are great looking guns! The only problem I face is I am a lefty and Remington does not make a stainless SA for us lefties. I liked my remington actions and want to keep with one.

simple...don't use a stainless action. standard carbon-steel is better suited to the purpose of an action anyway.

That is one huge bear! I'd be happy with a 7 foot grizzly.
