Savage is offering its police special heavy barrels in 20". Has anyone had any first hand experience with these short rifles. I was thinking of getting one for the range and a bit of deer hunting as it would be a bit lighter than the 26" versions. I have a BVSS in 300 wsm and love it but its too much of a slab to tote around for deer hunting.

My Savage M10 Sierra FCM has a 20" barrel. Very accurate and easy to pack around. It's safe to assume the model you speak of is very accurate too.
I have one. 
Very accurate, even with cheap ass American Eagle 150gr FMJ. I have the choate model though.. not exactly a carrying rifle. I'd like to get a sporter stock for it at some point, as I wouldn't hesitate to take it deer hunting.
