What's your load? Was going to pick up a bulk box of Sierra Match at Ellwood Epps, but decided to pick up a pink camo Remington 597 instead for my sister. Still wanted a couple "new" bullets to try out, so I went with the 168 grain AMAX for my Savage 10FLCP (in .308) re-stocked in a McMillan A5 with timing and bedding done by Jerry. ROT is 1:10, IIRC. I think I may have picked a slightly too heavy of a bullet though, the more I keep reading, the more it seems folks are attached to the 155gr. in my rifle.

PS. to the folks at Epps:

My sis is lovin' the 597. :)

Hi there firemachine69

I have used the 168gr Amax as well as the 168 gr Sierra's Match King in front of 44 grs of Varget in my Tikka tactical 308. I was more impressed with the accuracy of the Sierra's but both shot below moa in that particular rifle.
I shoot the 105 gr a-max in my 243 VLS with 1/2 inch groups so I know they work as well in some applications. Good Luck

168's are a standard for under 600 yards(175's past there) target shooting. IMR4064 or Varget. 150's or 155's out to 600. 155's are required for Palma shooting. Mind you, Palma rifles are very, heavy, single shot, .308's. Rifles run 14ish pounds with iron sights only.
Rumour has it that A-Max bullets aren't as good as they should be. Hornady's 168 grain HPBT works well though. They used to be called 'Match'.

A-Max bullets are going the way of the dinosaur. They will be replaced by the new match bullets, which are cheaper to make and more consistent while offering a higher BC. This comes from a shooter that is sponsored by Hornady and has been testing the new bullets.

still have abut 2k of bulk 168 amax's. the load that my gun likes for this bullet is 44.2 grains of varget.
this is in a 1 in 12 twist 308 remington LTR.
shoots nice out to the 300m mark, haven't taken it past that.

So I should buy all the 168gr Amax's I can find? My Garand loves them and I would like to keep that relationship going for as long as possible.

Thanks for the words, guys.

You gotta admit, the AMAX looks pretty sweet with the red tip all loaded up, as opposed to a plain HPBT sitting on top. :p
