I picked up a marlin semi auto and I love it, i just dont hear of many guys shooting them whats everyones opinion......

I have heard many good things about the 17HM2 (everyone I talked it to called it the "laser round") but the cost really threw me off of it (only downside really). I wanted something to hunt with and take out "plinking" with the guys and didn't want to worry about the cost of blowing off 500 rounds a day.

I got a good deal on a Henry Goldenboy .17HMR. Love the looks and feel.First trip to the range a the sights are out 3",Had to go the the loacal gunsmith to get them moved as the are in so tight.I will let you know how they work next time out.

Just picked up a Ruger 77 in 17 Mach 2 and am greatly impressed by the accuracy of this little round. Now looking to get a semi-auto...either a Marlin 717M2, complete Volquartsen rifle or convert a 10/22.

Definitely not a plinking round alright. At two to six times the cost of .22LR it becomes pretty expensive to perforate cans and paper. Still half the cost of HMR though, which is why I went with the smaller round.

i have 2, one savage, 1 NEF heavy barrel, and another savage with the accutrigger in this calibre on the way...compared to buddy's HMR the only thing he had on me was range(about 50m) and a more explosive capability on gophers close up. I have been firing this round for 3 years now....and consider it awesome. On windy/crappy days i take out the .22, but for any calm days i prefer to take out gophers at 100+m before they even know what hits them. Stock up on ammo now,it's getting harder to find,WSS here in stoon told me once what they have on the shelf is gone,it's all gone+no more.:agree:

There will be lots of ammo for the 17mach2 since it is very popular in the states. I have mentioned on this board many times about how much I do love this little round. I also own a Marlin 717 and for $200.00 it was the "best bang for the buck" out of all my rifles that I had bought. I never had a FTF or FTE and I have fired over a 1000 rounds through it.
Just remember to keep it clean. I have a bore snake that I bring out with me to the field and that is good enough to keep the chamber clean. I usually give it a pass through after every 200 rounds or so.

Thanx for the replies I love shooting mine the only problem I had was missfires with remington ammo so I switched to honady and not had one since
