Anyone shooting a 376 Steyr

I'll admit I did think about a 375 Ruger but an Alaskan is a heavier rifle than I am thinking of getting you also cannot get a Encore/Prohunter chambered in it case dimensions are to wide for them.

A 375H&H would work also the very rare 375 Flanged.

I did a check and found 250 376 Steyr brass checking on dies now.

I have 375H&H dies on my reloading shelf as well so this would make the most sense but even so there is something about the 376 Steyr that appeals to me .

What does Boddington say about the Steyr? I remember reading a piece on 375 calibre guns and it runs in my mind it was written by Boddington (maybe Barnes, Cartridges of the World). Can't remember for sure. The one thing I do remember is the 376 Steyr is the one .375 cal cartridge that the writer felt didn't measure up. All the others matched or exceeded the benchmark H&H ballistically, but the Steyr was a little anemic compared to the rest.

The 376 steyr is a 9.3x64 brenneke shell trimmed down abit and necked up to to take a .375 dia bullet. Should be close in power to the H&H. Seems like a good cartridge as its powder efficient and gets the job done with less recoil.....kinda like the 9.3 x62 .

In a nut shell - well put Sir!

The 9.3x64 Breneke is a nice cartridge - but the Mauser 9.3x62 overshadows it because it simply a fantastic cartridge with a great pedigree....

NOPE the 376 STEYR is on its own AND the case is bigger in diamaeter then the 9.3 's are - Very Kool cartrige - I think its better ( more efficent ) then the 375 Ruger ! Check it out ! JMO RJ

If i recall properly My hornady reloading book I have has that information I mentioned above, I'm not sure if you know but the x64 brenneke has a wide beltless magnum style shell, looks close like the 375 ruger shell. The brenneke is the parent case.http://http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.376_Steyr

Wonder what Camp Cook did? This thread is well over a year old :)

Didn't even realize I was the OP of this thread until you posted that.

I'll answer...

Seeing as I have my shortened to 21" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM = 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps and my 21" barrel for my T/C Contender carbines in 375JDJ = 2300fps with the same 260gr Accubonds I was wanting a performance combo that would give me appr 1/2 way between the two.

so after not too much thought I went with a stainless T/C Prohunter I bought 28" barrels in 30-06 and 375H&H had them both shortened to 22".

I load the 375H&H with 250gr TTSX @ 2600fps

I recently added another 375JDJ that gives slightly less fps than what I get from the 21" barrel = I bought a 14" SSK Ind barrel for my T/C Contenders I load 235gr made in Africa bonded Claw bullets or 260gr Partitions.

I also have a couple hundred 270gr Claw bullets that I plan on loading for this 14" barrel when I run out of the others.
