I am looking to take my stepdad boar hunting next year but currently don’t have a rifle chambered in the popular hunting cartridges. I will most likely pick up a proper scoped hunting rifle in something like 308 early next year. That said, still interested if anyone has any experience shooting boar with 7.62x39 in case I want to take one of my current rifles with me.

Where are you going?
7.62 x 39 shot do the job with softpoints or reloads. Make a good shot and you'll be fine. Look at the videos on youtube of guys using AK47 and AR's from helicopters for boars in Texas.

We will be either in Alberta or Saskatchewan. I had a look at some of those videos and the AK's were dropping boars without an issue. Got to love youtube for stuff like that. I always forget about it when searching for info on line. I'm still going to get a proper hunting rifle for the future but its nice to know I can take an 858 out and it will do the same thing.
