I have a box of Winchester Supreme Elite 2 3/4 , 300 grain, 2000fps slugs.

Anyone shot these before? I bought them for animal defense while out fishing. $5 a piece! They look like small missiles!

Any input is appreciated.

I also purchased some of those. Haven't shot one yet, but am saving them for deer/moose/elk type stuff. I read up a little on what was recommended by alaskan guides for defense rounds, and the gist of it was that sabot slugs are NOT recomended as bear defense loads, they recommend pretty much any common foster slug type load over the sabots. The sabots are for longer range hunting accuracy, for lighter game.
At defense distances 15'-0' ft from muzzle the added accuracy means squat, but the relaive lightweight muzzleloader bullet is not the optimum defense load.Meant to be used in rifled barrels, or with rifled choke at least.Or so I read...............

This was my understanding as well Squirrel. I picked up a box of these awhile back but opted to trade them in for the 15 round Winchester bulk pack of foster slugs.

If you print them on paper from a smooth bore let us know how they shoot. At $5 a round I was hoping someone else would figure it out. :)

I remember sending the Platinum tip sabots through huge trees, from a smoothbore even. Those look even gnarlier.

Look what just THREE of those out of a 12.5" Griz does.

Nuff said.

Ok honey, you go pick the tree you want from those nice boy scouts over there, and Daddy will cut it down....

Gun!!! Gun!!!!

And why do gun owners get a bad name with environmentalists?

Most gun owners get a bad name because they make a mess while out there, don't pack out what they packed in.

Burn what you can and pack the rest back up.

Duck_Hunter, yes I was getting an Xmas tree. Had chainsaw but was legal to discharge so why not?

The rounds went into an uphill incline covered in snow/ice and tree's. No way to go elsewhere.

Back to the topic. Highly suggest having a box or two of these shells with you when your out in big critter areas.

You know that slug is going THROUGH whatever you fire at and doing a unholy amount of damage. Just look at the pic above, only took 3.
