Anyone think that Long guns are going to include the AR

I keep hearing that they are going to keep this mythical thing called a handgun registry. To me this says they are going to unrestrict the AR. Actually I don't really believe this, however, it would be a good time to get an MP to answer this question. I have sent a letter to Stockwell Day but apparently he doen't like to answer letters.

They haven't passed the legislation to get rid of the gun registry. Don't get ahead of yourself. *If* it were to happen which I have my doubts about they surely wouldn't do it all at once.

Hunters are off the hook.

They said they still want handguns and assault weapons to be controlled. Pretty much what's restricted and prohibited will stay that way this round.

Go to the post "First reading of C-21" in Discussions and Alerts section. There is a link to the complete text of the bill. Of course there is no telling what the final version will be, if it passes.

They keep saying stuff about semi-autos and that worries me. Can we see the M14's, AR180B's, and SKS's, etc. getting restricted?

I had the same fears...but I've concluded the use of "semi-auto rifle" is simply because of the ignorance of most individuals commenting on the issue, especially Canadian media personalities. Most are unaware that many sporting and hunting rifles are semi-auto.

Having the AR-15 de-restricted is still tops on my wish list to Santa, but I wouldn't hold my breath anytime it will happen anytime soon. Now is time to get writing letters to every MP you can think of, especially opposition MP's! We need swing votes to get this bill passed.

There is absolutely no reason why any AR-15 of rifle barrel length should remain restricted, in fact it's barrel being 20" inches is longer than that of the SKS, which happens to be non-restricted thanks only to its wooden furniture. That's just b@$%s!

but then again there's no reason a real m14 should be a prohib either- but it is and you won't see that changing-

I would like to see a wood-furniture stocked AR-15, just to see what they'd say...:p
PP.

I have talked to my local MP`s office on three ocassions in the past month and each time said the same thing.

#1 I voted for you in last election
#2 Help get rid of long gun Registry and I`ll vote for you again
#3 Help get rid of registry and I`ll volunteer in your next election campaign

I suggest other people do this

I heard that they are indeed going to de-restrict the AR-15 and reverse the prohibitions that created 12x and neutered magazines, unfortunately shortly after I heard that, my alarm went off, so I had to wake up. Seriously though - it will be a long time before we see that type of change if ever.

At least someone is doing something worth while.

You guys are so quick to complain about governments, but when it comes time to act pro-actively very few seem to do anything. If you want the CPC to get real with the gun laws, you have to write letters to your representatives (whether they're elected or not!). Let me explain how conservative politicians think/work: "My actions are based on what my riding tells me to do. If I do what they say, they will elect me!".
If the riding headquarters recieves half of it's mail correspondence regarding letters asking for CCW, then guess what?! That riding is going to think party policy should be changed to promote CCW. The same goes for 12.X rollbacks and derestricting the AR15. You guys don't have to get off your asses, but you do need to grab a pen and write a letter or type out an email.

It would appear I need to post this link again here.

I've already lost the use of my FN-FAL rifle to the Federal Bureaucrats (bought it before it went prohibited, and only put a couple dozen rounds thru it!); I would cry, too, if my backordered AR180B from Wolverine gets nailed even before I receive it!

How do you think I feel? What would I have left to pimp out to everyone? :D

Not that some stupid law would stop me from shooting it.

Stupid mag cap laws are whats on top of my list. It is the Single largest reason why I have no interest in AR's or much else in the way of "black" rifles.
I just don't see the point in getting one to only shoot 5 rounds at a time, kinda just comletly kills the fun for me. So when the mag laws are scarpped I'll probably pick one up. untill then, they are just another thing the Lieberals have taken all the fun out of :(

I belive the original justification for the mag cap was that you don't need more then 5 rounds for hunting or whatever other "traditional" firearms things. Well I have to wonder how that holds any water considering that the rifles are restricted anyway, you can't hunt with them or do anything besides shoot paper at the range, Ok then so the argument is gone because your only using the rifles for recreation so therefore the mag cap has no real reason to exsist at all because there are already a seperate 3 round mag cap for hunting. It just makes no sense. There s no logical explaination for it, none at all. all it does is take the fun out of recreational shooting. the people who are going to shoot up a neighbourhood or spray the airport with gunfire, don't really care how many rounds your legally aloud to have. you can just as easilly take a drive 5min across the border and pick up some 30rd mags stuff em under your seat or whereever and head back and sell em with the other illegal guns being sold to gangs etc. So who does it stop really? only thing it stops are people who actually respect and follow the laws of our country from having alittle bit of fun on the weekend. It's sad really.

and WHY THE HELL should you have to get special permission (att) to even take your gun out of ur house when you just had to go through all the backgroundchecks and all the licensing to even get the gun. you have proved you know how to handle the firearms, you have been granted your restricted license based on that but yet you are not safe to drive it from your house to the range without the government knowing aabout it?? give me a break.
