Hi Folks, have noticed this for sale https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2090003-Genuine-PLA-Type81-SCOPE

Does anyone have any experience with this scope or seller? I am tempted to try one. I do have one of the original Chinese scopes for my Type 97 but its not great. Has to be taken off to field strip, limited field of view, reticle is very fine and difficult to see etc.

Thanks, I did search but could not find. So in summary.

1. No one seems to have tried yet

2. Maybe airsoft but then again there does not seem to be an Airsoft T81 on the market so maybe not

Canadian Firearm Museum on Instagram has a legit ? PLA model on their Type 81. I dont believe they elaborated on how good it was from a function standpoint. They used it more as a conversation piece haha. Supposedly the PLA ditched the concept within like 3 years of starting it, sooooo that probably should be recognized as a big red flag. I know I personally wouldnt touch one with a 10ft pole let alone with my wallet. Id recommend holding out for Tactical Imports holy grail rail incase its way better.

In their post they display the packaging it came in so Id recommend joining Instagram and checking it out to help sift out the numerous air rifle models. I wont post pics cus i dont want to be seen stealing their content.

I've just bought one locally face to face. It's not an airsoft knock-off, the scope is pretty heavy with a steel mount and feels quite solid when attached to the LMG. It's a battery powered scope (no battery - no reticle) with a BDC reticle up to 500 meters. The reticle is bright and pretty crisp when turned on, the color is red with several brightness settings. It can be adjusted for windage using a set screw on the mount itself (for crude adjustments, I guess it is useful if the rifle is bent, lol) and also windage and elevation adjustable as any other red dot.. I'll try to sight it in this weekend and see how it holds zero.

P.S.: I remember that TI mentioned they are going to clamp their rail mount to the rivets, so this is exactly how this scope is attached to the rifle. So I expect a variation of this system from TI.

How have u confirmed this ? who makes it? What does its manual and paper work look like ? will be very interested hear about your results!

Copy and pasted straight from TI LMG thread... We have receiver side mounts in the works. Hardware is done, QD mounts manufactured, just waiting on adapter plates. Will use replacement receiver pins to mount so no drilling or anything

No clamping thankfully mentioned, hoping for everyone else's sake that its something clever like the AK master mount.

I don't have a documented proof per say, but I handled a few airsoft scopes and other stuff. This one does look and feel like a milspec item. Even the scope soft case is very sturdy and has that authentic feeling to it. The seller told me a lot about it's history, use, and how they import them from China. So I chose to trust the guy, he looked very knowledgeable and the scope doesn't look like cheap junk at all. I don't mind paying that asking price because buying a similar modern scope with a BDC reticle plus whatever the TI scope mount will be sold for is going to cost not less than that, likely more. That being said, I wouldn't decide to buy it online, I only did so because it was a F2F deal where I could actually inspect it and have a chat with the seller.

whether its airsoft or not. i cant see it working, simply bcos clamping on to a narrow set rivets. i'll pass.

i'm excited to see what TI come up with.

Well, I'll do a range test this weekend.. :) my plan is to shoot a group of 10, then take it off, put it back on and shoot another group of 10. That should provide a good enough evidence if it holds zero or not. I expect that it will be a bit off, but not by a lot. That will be good enough in my books.

Sometimes airsoft stuff is actually pretty decent for real firearm applications regardless. I have 2 airsoft SVD bipods, one of which is used occasionally on my SVT 40. Holds up fine. Some NC star optics hold their own as well. You should check out that Instagram post and see if the pictured soft bag matches yours.

Yes, it looks the same as what I got. Manual was not included (not that I can read Chinese anyways) but I have exact same styrofoam packaging and the same soft case.

I have couple, tried on the 81 but not the lmg, since I don’t really want to go to the range under current situation.
It was first out around 80s, but most of them on civilian market have a manual in Chinese that citing a date of 2000.
It’s a compromised design that not extensively seen in the PLA, mainly for military exercise or competition.
It has a small screw at one side that allows you partially adjust the sight to be as parallel as possible to the barrel, features a 5 level brightness control and build in illuminated reticle for 81 rifle (not lmg unfortunately), other than that, it’s kinda similar to most other red dot.
The pro is you don’t need to drill your receiver anymore, and two real cons: you need to tighten it up really hard to prevent it from drifting, and if you have a folder unfortunately it will interfere with the folding stock.
I know a lot ppl selling these for about 400, no mean to judge but these sights are about 600-1000 CNY in Chinese civilian market, depending on years, which is about 100-200 CAD.

I think Type-81 Rifle/LMG should be fairly close to AK/RPK in terms of ballistics, so I checked trajectory tables for those.. AK/RPK bullet trajectories seem to be fairly close to each other, the biggest difference between two that I found in the tables is 8 cm at 250 meters, that's about 3 inches.. I guess it's good enough for any practical use, that's not a precision rig anyways.

Keep in mind that T81SA has a longer barrel compare to authentic type 81 to accommodate Canadian gun laws, and the reticle is designed for the original rifle...
So its not 100% accurate already

I have one. I dont know if its legit or not. It's so awful I just had to laugh when I unboxed it to take a picture for this thread. The reticle / glass quality / dark blue tint and field of view is so bad. I haven't tried firing it with it attached to the rifle but I don't expect it work very well. Tried to get a picture of the reticle if anyone is interested . Also unsure if it has night vision settings or if its just broken. The brightness adjustment turret has 1-5 seperated from another 1-5 settings but with one of the sets there is no visible illumination

fyi, original barrel is only half an inch shorter than ours.
