I only owned n used the hi point. Its been reliable for feeding and function and accurate enough for plinking with a red dot but the magazines are over priced, low quality, only hold 5 rounds and loading them into the pistol grip is not a smooth operation. The rail mounts are plastic but it works. The gun is light and handles well. its cheap enough to knock around n abuse a lil bit but good enough to enjoy.

If your gonna shoot 1000rds a year, i'd go with the $1000 ruger. For a casual plinker the hi point is good, but I'd never pay the $550+tax they're asking for it now, I bought it for $400 when they first came in.

Do yourself a favour and pick up the Ruger. It will have a higher build quality and will accept 10 round glock mags. A PCC that only feeds 5 rounders just doesn't make much sense to me.

I've used both.
Prefer the Hi-point. So much lighter. Both have the same accuracy.
half the cost. Threaded barrel. More comfortable for me. Takes low power reloads and high power rds no problem.
The ruger needs high power rds only.

I own the Hi-Point and my buddy owns the tacticool Ruger. Both function well (for me) with factory or hand loads. I find the Hi-Point better balanced (like, try holding them both with 1 hand - the Hi-Point no issues, the Ruger is so front-end heavy). Both are easy to mount a scope or red dot. The Hi-Point magazines need to be a bit longer to securely fit in the magazine well - I find I have to make sure they "click" in place by pushing up on the center of the mag. I see mini plastic magazine extensions are available in the USA - not sure if available in Canada.

However, 5 round Hi-Point magazines are nowhere nearly as fun, cool, or practical (for competition) than the 10 round magazines the Ruger offers.

The Hi-Point is rated for 9mm+P ammo. Not sure what the Ruger is rated for (I hand load so making +P ammo is easy). The threaded barrel lets you add a loundener if you wanted to on the Hi-Point. Not sure why you need one but looks cool I guess).

To me, it came down to cost. The Hi-Point costs about half of the Ruger (I paid $400 or so for my Hi-Point. My buddy paid over $1100 for his Ruger tactical).

The Ruger is also rated for +P ammo. I have both and love the takedown functionality of the Ruger as well as the ability to take ubiquitous Glock mags (double the capacity also doesn't hurt). The hi-point is a great, affordable plinker but the Ruger is the one I take to the range more often.

I run Glock 40 magazines and get 13 rounds.
13 is wayyy better than 5

Ruger PCC all the way!
Quality
Glock Mags, cheaper to buy (Pmags of course)
take down.
feels like my 10/22's big brother.
