Anyone use a Cabelas Outfitter's Fleece WindShear Parka ?

I have alot of outdoor/hunting/hiking jackets, and there all fairly noisy.

Was wondering about this one, I'm sure it's quiet but just how warm/windproof? Anyone have any experience or hands on?

two of my hunters had the non hooded versions on the hunt I guuided last week. they are very very nice coats. I'm picking one up on my way through texas in march :D
 
I have an older model of a very similar Cabela's jacket (and also the pants) which I have used for at least ten years. They are quiet, waterproof and windproof.

As for warmth, well when my downhill ski suit shrunk in my closet, I started wearing my camo Cabela's jacket and pants for a ski suit, with layers underneath depending on temperature. :cool: Quality product.

I have never used anything from Cabela's, but...

After years of Goretex and similar, I am 100% converted to softshells.
Those tight woven fleeces are "good enough" for all but the most torrential downpours, are much much quieter, and are very breathable.

Now who wants to go to Cabela's and pick one up for me, I'll buy you a coffee mug from the gift shop :p


How do they size? Big/small?

I'm 6'1, 240lbs 48" chest..........should I be going for the 2XL/3XL? I prefer my jackets to have a bit of room in them. Nothing sucks more than ordering something online and getting the wrong size
 
Cabela's did have a sizing guide in their (paper) catalogues, which I used to receive. I reckon they have this same info on-line.

I am not a big man, and wear a Cabela's Large. I would go for a larger size - after all, you need room to layer stuff underneath when it gets real cold.

I can't speak to that product, but I wear a windstopper fleece for working outside...

The fleece weight would be like Polartec 200, but with the windstopper, it's amazingly warm on it's own.

Not sure if that helps at all...
 
On another note, I have a River's West Jacket that is their waterproof fleece.

Warm, silent, stretchy, waterproof. Love it. Awsome product.

Is it quiet? Very very very quiet?

What jacket do you have? price? The Stalker in digital confusion might fit the bill. Where did you pick yours up from? I found this place but no email, have to give them a call in the AM

Silent is more like it. When I'm in a store checking out hunting clothes, I have a simple test. I run my rough assed callouses over the fabric. If I can hear it brushing, I move on. River's west is as silent as any fleece.

I got mine at WSS. I hate shopping there, but sometimes they have stuff I can't find elsewhere. Not often, but sometimes.

I have the Ambush jacket in Max-4. Don't recall the price, but it was around or a little North of $200.
 
Nothing against Cabela's (just bought a set of their silent weave/scentlock stuff in "Open Country") but here's a plug for a small Canadian waterproof/windproof fleece hunting apparel manufacturer from the KW area, Ronyn Wear. ( www.ronyn.com )I stumbled across their product two years ago on eBay, and it is warm, quiet and pretty durable. I recall a fully lined and insulated set of parka and 6-pocket pants ran me about $160 plus s&h.
 
Nester - I have three of their coats with the Windshear. A pullover without the hood, a pullover with a hood which is my favorite and a zip with a hood. The zipper one has an elastic in the waist that makes it ride up on you, I would not buy this again but it was on sale. I wear an XL and the hooded pullover fits me perfect yet the one without the hood is a little tight. I weigh about 220 so I would guess the 2XL would fit you. I personally think the Outfitter Camo is the best color/pattern there is. I wear it goose hunting, big game hunting, in the fall and in the snow. A friend has worn it 5 or 6 years and he swears by it, which is why I bought mine. It is also great on a quad. In other words I don't think you can possibly go wrong with Cabela's.
