Anyone use Redding body dies?

I have Redding body dies for most of what I shoot. I always thought that one would resize the brass down 0.002" with these dies for best results and minimum resizing.

When I use these dies, I cannot get it to size down any more than the fired size for the chamber let alone another 0.002".

I set them up to fully contact the shell holder and it comes out to the chamber fired size. This brass does fit back in the rifle with no issues so might not be a problem. I use Lee collet dies to size the necks and Hornady Head Space Comparators to measure the shoulder.

Redding body dies work best with Redding competition shell holders. I have a few but have not tried them as yet. There's video from "Long Range Shooting" called "How to size a case and set head space" on Youtube showing how to set them up for minimum shoulder bump. Hope this helps.

I dug around and found another shell holder in a set of Lee dies. It measured thicker under where the base of the cartridge sits thus pushing it further into the die. I tried it and got 0.007" further set back on the shoulder and a little more control over how much resizing I'm getting.

I edited my post. couldn't get the link up for the vid so typed out the details.

OP, sounds to me like your dies are working just fine. If your cases are chambering easily, you've hit the sweet spot.

I use Redding dies, but they also size the necks, I didn't know Redding made dies which only sized the body.

Not every shell holder is the same.

I found this out when I mixed up 308 shell holders and ended up with a big bunch of brass that got sized too long. I now dedicate a press and shell holder for all my 308 case head brass.

If you neck size only after 3-4 firings you will need to set the shoulder back to get your rounds to chamber easily. Body dies are great it you have ammo loaded that needs the shoulder bumped back. Don’t forget to use case lube.

glad it works . i think your perspective is not right, but so what

I use quite a few Redding body dies and haven't noticed problems getting a proper shoulder bump.
