And by short I mean less then 18' esp. the 12.5" , 14 and 15" veriaty?

also did you have any of the old school shooters try to give you carp about how you're using a 'wrong gun' and that kinda stuff?

also if you use/ try it how did you do?

Short barrel

Few years back most skeet guns were shorter. But not that short. Now
30",or 32" is normal.
They will break targets, but not as consistantly as a longer barrel. Too short os sight plain.
If a person comes out to our club with a short riot gun and just wants to shoot some clay, then by all means have fun. Thats what its all about.
However if they seem like they want to become better and get more serious, then I'll tell them "your shooting the wrong gun"
Just the same as a guy showing up shoot rolling thunder shoot with a 101 pigeon grade. "wrong gun"
What is the purpose of these ultra short barreled guns with high capassity mags ? They are great self defence weapons in tight areas. Not meant to hit a rising target at 35 yards.
What ever makes you smile,, thats what you should shoot.

I see lots of guys shooting short barrel guns for Trap. The game is hard enough with a long barrel gun. Don't limit yourself.

I've done it, and it's fun, but it's not a great way to improve your scores. However, good shooters are god shooters, and I've seen some guys hit with remarkable consistency when they tried these out for fun.:)

I like that. "good shooters are god shooters". I wonder if God has ever been in a slump? :)

I've shot skeet with my rifle-sighted, modified choke 14" 870. One shooter was curious whether the gun was legal and there were a few comments about how loud the gun was. It definitely was loud.

I didn't do as well with it as my regular target guns but I hit enough to know that I could do it.

First time I used my 18.5 for trap I did BETTER than I usually did with my 28".
(Usually average 17-20 the 1/2 dozen times a year that I shoot shotguns, but shot 22 with the 18.5", giggling to myself the whole time)

Use my HP9 all the time :)

No bad things said other than its louder then its 30" brothers.

Its been test driven several times with smiles everytime....of course im not a serious shooter, I am happy when i bust 15/25 :)

I've put a couple cases of shells downrange out of my Grizzly 12.5" shooting skeet. My scores have been pretty much the same scores I shoot with my 26", 28" and 29.5" guns. I would say I'm just an average wingshot, and even I have managed a 25 with the Grizzly. I have not tried the 12.5" at trap or five stand, only because it has a cylinder bore.

Will the "old school shooters" give you crap? That depends on who you are, how old you are, how well they know you, etc, etc, etc. No one gave me any "crap". I would estimate that half the guys were intrigued with the short barrel (and they wanted to try a few shots) while the other half figured "here he is again with another weird gun".

A 12.5" or 14" gun can be difficult to shoot at moving targets since they have a "choppy" swing - the center of mass is far to the rear, instead of forward like it is on a 28" o/u. I generally shoot "gun down", so this is less of an issue for me. The other issue is noise - the short tubes are very noisy and therefore less pleasant to shoot.

I learned about skeet with a rifle sighted slug barrel. Did better with that than my 30 incher the other night. Now I have a 26" RemChoke and want to try that - I think I should be better. I dusted both from the centre position with a 26" open cyclinder.
