Hi,

Just curious if anyone is using the 243 Winchester in Precision Matches??

Was thinking about doing a few matches on my off weekends and just wondering how common that calibre is.

Thanks

Doesn't seem to be popular, although with the 105 AMAX, it should certainly be competitive.

Lot's of people having success with the 6mm family in many long range comps, so go for it. Come on out and join the fun!! Precision match schedule is posted in the competition forum. The more the merrier!!

I shoot a 6mm Crusader, which is a 6mm Rem blown out. A 243 with a fast twist barrel, shooting a 105 or 115gr. bullet would be a fine choice.

243 is very popular in UKD tactical matches in the US where they shoot out to 1200 yards. Read George Gardiners blurb on it on 6mmbr : http://www.6mmbr.com/243Win.html

never do a match but with my reloading , and a bad tracking scope , at 430 yard 3 shot in 1.750 with osme berger 90gr bthp , i have do a couple time with a very good condition while testing my load under .500 5 shot group at 100 yards , with berger 90gr bthp and hornady v-max 87gr, .243 win have a good bc for the long range , but the 6.5mm have a better BC

243 win and long range go well togather, using the 105, 107 or115gr VLD. It's a great combo with 4350 or Varget.
It still goes back to the rifle, action (700) and custom barrel in 1 in 8 twist.
Enjoy. Bill

thanks for the response...I think I will give a few a go and see how it works out...have shot out to 600..800 shud be interesting at first!
