Practically any shotgun can be used for trap but some models are more suited to the game than others. The SP1 is a field gun and made to be carried all day so with it's light weight the recoil might wear a person down a bit quicker than a target gun that has more heft to it. That said lots of people use field guns for trap but you won't see any really serious top shooters with them. The 686 is a time proven design and well known for it's reliability so there's no question that the gun will be up to the task.
I suppose one question might be your use of terminology, some people refer to all the shotgun sports as "trap" when the different games all have individual names such as trap, skeet sporting clays, 5 stand, etc. If your looking for a gun that will work for all the diciplins then a sporting clays gun will be the best compromise with a field gun being second. But then again maybe you really mean just the game of trap.
