Anyone using the Dillon RT1500?

I've got one on the way and would certainly appreciate any tips or tricks.

I've watched a number of Youtube videos and there seems to be a difference in opinion of whether or not you need to run a sizing die with decapping pin removed after the trimmer to make sure the inside neck diameter is appropriate for seating bullets.

The rub with the RT1500 is that, sure, it sets your length. But it leaves the neck in a terrible state. Nasty flange on inside (will damage bullet), nasty flange on outside, uncontrolled and arguably too-tight neck diameter.
Personally I choose to use an inside chamfer tool, outside chamfer tool, and a neck diameter adjustment die (I think it's called an M-die?) before seating any bullet in a case, even my 55gr 223 bulk loads.

Thanks.

I've got a 550 toolhead that just has a size/deprime die at station 1. I plan to try it first with the RT 1500 in station 2 or 3 with the trim die set so it's not actually sizing there. I'm hoping that helps with some of the neck diameter issues with it not being squeezed and trimmed at the same time.

If that doesn't work I'll go with decapping die, RT1500, then high set sizing die with the decapping pin removed to fix the neck ID.

The carbide cutter that comes with the RT1500 isn't the right one for trimming brass. I went to my local machine tool whse & bought a cutter that is made for cutting brass. Virtually no burr on the inside or outside of the neck now.

I still use an M Die to expand the neck for flat based bullets.

Any more info on the replacement cutter, Henry? Was it an off-the-shelf part?

I'm kinda in the middle of nowhere without a lot of options for machine tool warehouses.

Who makes this M die?

I have an rt1500 as well, but I have never seen a bad cut on any of my brass. Now having said that I only use it for plinking ammo, but again none of my brass has any burs in the mouth, and I have looked. Now as for the next size, yes the trim die does resize the neck too small. I have a full length sizing die set up on my tool head right after the trim station and I have the die set so that I just neck size with the expander ball. This also knocks out any internal burs (if there is any, at least in my experience) when the brass is put through. I again have never had an issue with burs or rough necks on my brass. Maybe a bad run of cutters? I also don't use this trimmer for precision ammo, adjusting the trim length is not precise enough.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Ya agreed I had the 650xl....same problem....then bought the mark 7...and just add full length sizer ...just to do the mouth ..I back it way off ....all depends on how one wants to do there process
Where and in which step one wants to process the press

Hey Stevo
Here is the part # for the non-ferrous cutter insert: TCGT21.50.5-AP KT10U
I paid $20.00 each for them.

Henry, what's the actual name of the place you got the cutters from? My google skills are failing me on this one.

Edit: found it.
