Anyone using Win 760 in their 6.5x55 SM?

I have a good deal of this powder and have assembled some ladder loads for warmer days ahead. I am just wondering what to expect from the Zastava M 70. As noted, I should include the bullet I am loading for. The Hornady 140 grain SST. Load data is from Hodgdon, but I will not note my personal load data.

I used to use 39gr of 760 with the 140gr PSP prvi partizan bullet out of a M38 and a M96 sporter. The data I have written in my note book shows 37.5 - 43gr for a 140gr. Definitely refer to published load data and not my info

It would really help if you mentioned the "WEIGHT" of the bullets you wanted the loads for.

W760, is IMHO, to fast for bullets over 129 grains, in the 6.5x55.

I use it for 95 grain - 120 grain bullets in my Tikka T3, because it gives consistent accuracy and excellent velocities, especially with the 95 grain VMax.

Your Zastava Mod 70 is a very strong action, compared to the Sweded M96/38 actions. It will take a substantially higher pressure load.

I use 47.0-50.0 grains of W760 over CCI250 primers, in Lapua cases under 95grain V max bullets, for a best accuracy load in my rifle, appx 3000+fps from a 22 inch barrel.

With your Zastava, 260Remington loads are easily doable.

Still, use caution.

6.5 Creedmore loads with W760 are OK, because of the smaller case capacity in relationship to the bore. The 6.5x55 has quite abit more case capacity and all sorts of things change, including pressure curves and efficiency.

For heavier bullets I use IMR7828ssc and get around 2800+fps with 140grn SSTIL bullets in that 22in bbl, with 100-300 yd groups under a minute of angle.

My Tikka T3 has very tight tolerances. Zastava tolerances are not as tight. What works in my rifle may not in your rifle.

I expect to arrive at an accurate load that exceeds published data, owing to the seemingly conservative loads available in light of the many older less robust guns out there.

If I was looking to load 760 in my 6.5x55 Zastava, I would look closely at 260 loads. You should see trends.Something like 4 grains less than RL-22 or something like that. I think the 260 is a bit smaller and shorter but higher pressure . I then would check a European reload manual for velocities. They treat this cartridge more seriously. This would be my Max. I would then work up over a chrony. Of course this all done by your seat of pants. And I don't recommend it.

I've used H414, same powder, not my favorite for dragging out the best accuracy, but I use it for hunting loads.
Either of the 4831's are my go to for the 6.5x55.

Or get the LEE 2nd addition...............140gr jacketed Win 760-37.5gr/2393fps MAX 41.5gr/2565fps pressure 50557 PSI doesn't say what brass The SSt's have a longer bearing surface so start below MAX and work up with mag primers as 760 is a ball powder......my 250 Savage and 7x57 love it. I haven't tried Win 760 in my 6.5x55"s as RE22 ,N-204 and IMR 4350 worked so well

I have no experience with w760 in 6.5x55. In my Tikka T3x, The best load for 140 SST was with Re22. It gave 0.3 moa and 2740 fps. This is a terrific load. Also I had 0.5 moa with the 160 grains HRN and Re22. If I have to choose only one powder for 130 grains and above in 6.5x55, it will be Re22. H4831 can be accurate but gives less velocity. Another good option is H100V.

Yes, not the best powder for optimal load density. Will try these 20 ladder loads I have made up and reassess. I am just wanting to save my H-4831 and IMR-4350 for other chamberings. :)

Lots of good information gentlemen. Regards.

If you are also planning to use Nosler Partition, a premium bullet, why would you not want to use the ideal tried and tested powders (R22, 4350s, 4831 and on the other side of the Atlantic, n165/n165 or N560) for it? Although 760 might work, one of the posters already stated that it might be too light for 140grs. Maybe you have 1000s of Nosler purchased years ago a good price and can afford to ?

I got some Partitions (2 boxes) off a CGNer recently and I am going to use R22 as it seems to be favored by many. Also Nosler manual stated the R22 was most accurate for that bullet but we know that each gun have its own distinct personality and the only way to really know is to test it. Hoping the R22 will work well as the Noslers are too expensive to do any extensive testing with a wide range of powders.

Since you already loaded 20 rounds up, please do share your findings. Always up to learning new things.
