I was at a local gunshop and asked what they had in used 1911 clones. He pulled out a Argentina made Modelo 1927 (1911 clone) for 400$.

It was in very good shape.

Do any of you have any feedback on this pistol? Good? Bad?

Should I go for it? This will be my first pistol and will only be used for target shooting, no competing.

The Argentine 1911 isn't a "clone"....it was built by Colt machinery set up by Colt engineers. They are a very good buy. Most have shot out or corroded original barrels, though.

I should also mention that it's not one of the original batch made by Colt but it is one with the D.G.F.M. (F.M.A.P) markings on the slide. Does this make a difference in the quality? Are the parts interchangeable with the Colt pistol?

Thanks for helping a handgun newbie out.

is very good 1911 and good price.Go for it

Information in this thread has been very good so far... The later ones were made in Argentina on the Colt tooling. Yes, standard parts should interchange with these.

If it's in good shape then the price offered is very good. I'd be all over it. ;)

This is my Sistema Colt 1927. It was in pathetic shape when I bought it. The barrel was shot out etc. My gunsmith, Marianne Carniak, installed a Series 70 barrel in it along with a match barrel bushing along with McCormick parts (trigger, sear, and beavertail grip safety) plus Novak sights. This old war horse will shoot with the best of them. Would I buy another 1927? I have one in a shop waiting to be picked up. Regards, Richard :D

I bought 2 of these model 1927's at an auction. Price was $280.- for the pair! They were both from the original runs made at the Colt factory in the US.
I had Rodger Kotanko work one into my IPSC gun and kept the other original. Both are great shooters.

I was doing a bit of reading and heard that they have a hard time feeding anything but ball.. Is this true? Can anything be done to correct this, as my range is indoors and they do not allow the shooting FMJ rounds.
