I got a 535 Mossberg awhile back and I am setting it up for myself one of the things I have be doing at the moment is trying to upgrade the forend I picked up a slide tube assembly and nut thinking the 500/590 would work.
Everything seems to function good but what I did note is the bolt won't open all the way measuring things up I see the slide bars are about 1/4 inch shorter.
To be expected one going up to 3.5 shells the other 2 up to 3 inch.

I don't know where to get the longer slide bars from or should I of bought a slide assembly for a 835 I don't think Mossberg made any 535s with a slide tube?

If anyone is or was working on one doing the same thing any help would be great.

Regards

is there anyway to remove the slide bars from the assembly? From what I can remember, they are glued/bonded in pretty good. In any event, if you're able to remove them, why not make you own slide bars using a metal rod available in the hardware store. A small length of rod will only run you about $5. I've used those metal rods on a few occasions to fabricate parts such as stock bolts...cant see why they cant be used for slide bars. (assuming they are of the same diameter of course)

EDIT:....nevermind this response.....I was thinking of the slide tube for a mossberg 935/930 which is totally different setup...scrap my idea altogether

Thanks for trying to help you do have a point it would have to be flat bar though.

Who I would really like to find is someone that can tell me if a 835 slide tube assembly would work on a 535 or the slide bars switched over to a 500/590 slide tube that would save me from wasting more money.

Yours has been converted already then. Can you feed 3.5 inch mags through it? If so I would be interested to know what was used for a slide tube & slide bars when it was converted? All 535s are said to have a molded forend no tube & the slide bars are pined to the forend.

My 535 just screw off the retaining ring and slide the forearm off. Replace with aftermarket forearm. I have several different forearms for mine

The wood version 535ats is factory 3.5". The forearm comes off just like the older 500s. It's only the synthetic ones that are molded one piece with the control arms

So what would I use for a slide tube that has the right length for slide bars bought a 500/590 side tube assembly but the bars are too short?

I just measured the ones on the 590 slide I bought and there 7.5 end to end yet there about ruffly 1/4 too short keeping the slide from going back fully. The other day I got a over all measurement on a 6.5 inch slide tube off a 835 & over all length was 13.5 inchs on a 500 it was 13 inchs over all what I have been looking for is a 7 5/8 tube off a 835 but don't even know if that will work.
Need some way to get a hold of Mossberg maybe they can sell me one for a 535.

I measured my action bars. They are 7 1/4" long on my 535

Thanks I have checked Brownells out already and can get one from them but will need a adapter nut they only have the 6.5 one.
I did get a hold of Mossberg in the US they said they would have to build me one but they didn't say they wouldn't ship it to me I have to talk to one of the tecs there it was the end of the day & they had all gone home.
The over all length of the bars on the 835 & 535 are speced out a 8 inch according to Mossberg end to end you might want to double check yours & make sure it is feeding properly.

Good luck mossberg won't sent parts north of the border. Try western gun parts or Brownells.
My forearms come off my 535ats just like the old 500

It will most likely be the same for me then they just haven't told me that yet. I will be getting mine elsewhere anyway somewhere closer to home. Yours sounds like it is the way it should be I wonder why there is so many different measurements I am getting looking at mine I need something 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer.

I couldn't even get a t shirt sent from mossberg

Well my order came today from Numrich got the 835 slide tube and ordered a adaptor nut from Cabalas in winter pig.:) Slide bars are 1/2 inch longer could only get the 6 5/8 tube. I can post pics of this 835 tube with a 590 tube so the difference can be seen if anyone is interested.
I will post later also on fit and function after I get it on my 535 just using my tri rail off my 590A1 for now.

If anyone knows how to swap the bars around without too much trouble I am all ears.[ longer bars on the longer 590 tube ]
