AOI marked Austrian Rifles - Some pictures added

Wasn't there a mutiny in Trieste with radicals placing explosives on Austro-Hungarian warships in late 1918 ?

i thought it was italians that didn't get the memo about yugoslavia being formed, or maybe that is why.

the AH empire in WW1 is facinating; navy, standschutzen, et al.

Yet you find so few books, movies, documentaries...etc on the Austro-Hungarian empire and their fight against Italy and Russia. Maybe we will see a resurgence considering the century anniversary is coming up.

I doubt it, the movie industry tends to just remake the same stuff, I'd expect movies on Gallipoli, Lawrence of Arabia, All Quiet on the Western Front, the Red Baron, the African Queen.

Somebody should film the story of the cruiser SMS Koenigsberg.

What really happened is adventure enough; no need to "Hollywood" things up.

Nabs, I know of a few books that directly or indirectly cover the Austro Hungarian participation in WW1:

Blood on the Snow The Carpathian Winter War of 1915, by Tunstall and The Brusilov Offensive by Dowling. While the later is a Imperial Russian offensive, it was directed against the Kuk.

Another general book about WW1 from the German and Austro Hungarian perspective that does an excellent job of covering Austro Hungary both politically and militarily is The First World War by Holger Herwig. You will find mention of the A-H naval campaigns against the Tsar's navy in the Black Sea in this book.

There is also a book on the Gorlice-Tarnow Offensive that is highly recommended but I haven't picked it up yet and can't vouch for it.

As for movies... I'd suggest checking out Russian cinema as well as the classic Czech book The Fateful Adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk which was made into a film by both the Czechs and Germans.

There is also a film about a Kuk officer that is betrayed by his fellow officers (for career advancement) with good uniform depictions in it and some battle scenes. Unfortunately I can't remember the title.

Wow, thank you for the list. I have copied the titles down and will go hunting around for the books :).

If you do remember the name of that movie, please do post it as I am sure others will also enjoy it as much as I will.

Good news! There are 8mm molds available that straddle the 244 gr weight. The bad news for some, is that they are made by the Great Satan Lee, and are inexpensive and therefore of unacceptable quality (this is sarcasm for the many who would not see that).

MidSouth Shooting Supplies sells a set of custom Lee dies for all of US$18. The "Karabiner" and "Maximum" fit the bill. Unfortunately for the impatient, they are presently "Out of Stock", but they seem to replenish their stocks of these regularly (as Lee is able), and they do ship to Canada!

I find those molds very useful in a wide range of 8mm Milsurps, of which there are many.

Now in stock! https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000068MMMAX
