I recently ordered a new CZ 457 Training rifle from Victory Ridge, and while I wait for the gun to arrive, I thought I'd pick the brains here. While the open sights on the gun are nice (as with the Lux and Premium), I much prefer to have some form of peep sights. I've done a little bit of research and I've come up with a few different options.

1. Skinner Sights. I've had them on a Henry Small Game Carbine and thought they were well designed. They aren't easily adjusted, but they are simple and easy to install.

2. JNP Ghost Rings. These are an interesting option. They replace the rear factory blade, and then swap these in the place, which allows you to adjust the shooting distance using the ladder. Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada.

3. Tech-Sights. These are like old military sights. I've read that they aren't as precise as some others, but they offer a bigger sight picture. They don't have anything listed for the 457, but the 455 might fit

4. Williams FP-AG/TK. This one seems pretty popular for the gun on various forums. More easily adjusted for windage and elevation than the others here. They also don't ship to Canada, and the one US sight I saw that does ship does so to the tune of $45-ish.

Of course, there are others who suggest older Redfield or Anschutz sights with different front sights, but I'd like to keep things simple/inexpensive. This is not for competition shooting, but rather just for plinking and some occasional small game hunting. Anyways, does anyone have any experience with these?

The Williams is simple and robust. Maybe someone in Canada has it? Is it a univeral drill and tap model that you were looking at? Or is there one that is made with an adapter to mount to the CZ?

I have ordered sights from Williams in the recent past, and they ship to Canada gladly.

I just went to the Williams site to confirm. The air gun sight with target knobs you desire is in stock and ready to ship up here.

Well now, I'm happy to be wrong! I admit I didn't check to see on their website if they shipped up here, I was going off a couple forum posts I had found while scouring for more information on their sights. I think that bumps them up to the most desireable then

I believe the FP-AG/TK model mounts straight to the dovetail on the CZ. It was designed for 11mm and 3/8 dovetails, so pretty much for rimfires and airguns

Don't believe anything that you read on the internet!

The friendly guys at Williams were happy to explain it to me the last time that I was at the shop. They cannot sell to Canadians (like me) who live near them in southwestern Ontario. They do not have a person to do the paperwork for those sales. But they do have an export license to ship to Canada.

You will be happy with your William's sight.

I like my Skinner sight too, but agree that it is a bit fiddly dues to its 'robustitude'.

Thanks for the helpful information! I think I'll place an order with them this week then. I may ask them a couple questions about their aperatures; specifically, their Twilight series ones. They sound like they'd be more helpful for my evening hunting in the bush. What I'd really like is a Merit #4 adjustable aperature, they sound like they'd be quite nice on the gun. However, they seem to be pretty hard to find, and Midway shows that they've been discontinued.

A different front sight might be helpful too, but those aren't as important to me right now.

I'm looking at their site and I do like the sight you picked. But where is it $45'ish? I'm seeing $85 US for screw adjust and $97US with target knobs. Of course that's also before exchange and shipping.

I don't think I was overly clear in my post. What I meant was the 3rd party site I was looking at had a shipping charge of $45 to Canada. The Williams website has cheaper shipping from what I understand.

I do wonder how large of an outer diameter aperture can fit on the Williams. I think the one that comes on the peep sight are either 3/8" or 1/2", but I'm curious if 1" ones would fit on the 457. If 1" O.D. apertures would fit fine, it would open up more possibilities

My current preference for set/forget sights that are durable and small is the NECG dovetail peep sight. For something with easy / precise adjustments, I prefer an Anschutz aperture sight, and it will work with the factory front sight on the 457.

I regard the FP-AG's as set/forget, because you still have to loosen a clamping screw on the left side to adjust elevation. Brownells sells a finger adjustable screw, but it's going to increase bulk, and the sight already hangs over the left side of the rifle more than I like. I'm also not a fan of the clamp mechanism, which uses 3 really small screws, and you have to remove the top of the sight (the part holding the aperture and has your windage adjustment) to remove the base... if you want to be able to swap more easily to a scope or different sight, it's a bit of a pain.

I really like Skinner's products but don't like their CZ aperture sight. It has dovetails machined in the bottom, and a slot down the middle at the back to clamp. The dovetails on mine are so wide and you have to crank on that screw so much to clamp it that the dovetails only contact the rail on the rifle at the very back of the sight, and also binds the windage adjustment... I had to un-clamp the sight to adjust windage, so sighting in was a pain. It's a nice looking and well machined sight, but I can't recommend it based on my experience with one.

The Tech-sights are durable, all steel, solid clamp, but adjustment aren't as easy as the NECG and it's harder to swap apertures (I think they sell a kit with different sizes).

There's also a CZ 455 camp rifle that came with a peep sight... those sights are also simple and nice, but the aperture is quite small and fixed, so you can't swap it out.

Actually, ignore what I said about the Williams. The one I have for the CZ is the FP-CZ. It is lower than the FP-AG and I got it for a 452. The FP-AG might be too tall to work on the 457, but I don't know. My memory is a bit fuzzy (been >10 years since I got the Williams), the FP-CZ is basically the same as the FP-GR, except slightly modified so that it will clear the CZ's stock on the left hand side (??I think it was the part with the elevation markings on the left that could clash with the stock?) - you might want to check with Williams if you order from them.
The clamp is forward of the aperture / sight mechanisms on the FP-CZ and FP-GR

Western gun parts sell Williams sights. Another option for a basic peep is the Williams 54 appature. It requires a screw driver to adjust, but it's more simple and lower profile.

Do you happen to know if the NECG sights (I assume model N-108) works with the stock from sight of the 457?

The FP-AG supposedly works quite nicely with the 457, or so I have read a number of places. I do prefer the idea of a peep sight further back than the FP-AG would be though, which is what gives the Skinner/NECG a little more appeal at times. However, the Skinner doesn't look like it'll take any larger apertures, whereas the NECG might?
