I am thinking on putting a aperture sight on my bl22 and was hoping for some advice and info on what a good choice would be. I don't really want to have the receiver drilled and tapped and was thinking on one to mount right on the dovetail on receiver. Never done anything like this before and am unsure will I need to change the front sight or is there something available that I can use my front factory sight? I would really appreciate any suggestions and info. Not wanting to spend a pile of money if I can get away with it just would really like to try this out. Thanks.

A buddy of mine I was talking to yesterday just called me and said he found a old aperture in his parts box. He measured from bottom to peep and it measured .690. My front sight only measures .355. Is there any possibility that this sight will work with original front sight or would it have to changed?

Hard to tell with just these 2 numbers. The taper of your barrel comes into play. Look at how tall your rear sight is, that should give you an idea.

Try http://www.brownells.com/ or https://www.gunpartscorp.com I know they both ship to Canada.

It usually works out to have front sight and center of aperture (in its lowest position) to be parallel with the bore, or the aperture a smidgeon lower. Measure your barrel diameter at the front sight. Measure from bottom of barrel to top of front sight. Subtract half of first measurement from the second - that gives you height of top of front sight above the centreline of the bore. Then do same set of measurements for your proposed aperture setup - you want to end up with center of aperture at or a few thou the same height as front sight above the bore

Thanks for that info. Providing I did measured correctly (I'm sure I did) it defiantly won't work with the original front sight. There's just over 1/2" difference. Thanks everybody for the info. I think I'm going to have to make some phone calls this week.

I put the Williams WGRS 54 on my BL22.
It needed a fair bit of filing to fit the factory dovetail, but it's cheap compact and available.
I also needed a .530"tall front sight.

Thanks Jeff. That williams sight was the one I was thinking on but wasn't quite sure how tall of front sight I needed. Do you happen to recall where you got it from? Found them on Cabela's Canada but no longer available and I was trying to find one up here before buying from the states. Also what do you think of it accuracy wise?

Western Gunparts hooked me up.
If I had to do it over I would have tried to get a fibre optic front sight.
It turns out gophers and dry grass are about the same colour as a brass bead.

FYI, Skinner Sights are still shipping to Canada. I just ordered a replacement front sight for my Marlin. Last one I ordered, I accidentally filed a hair too much off the dovetail. Damn shipping cost the same as the blade! $15.
